The Favorites
Birmingham Stallions +130
The Stallions shortened up to +130 favorites to win the UFL Championship after scoring the 20-18 win and non-cover against the Defenders as near 10-poinmt favorites. Mother Nature played a huge role in the match suspending the action for a bit. Matt Corral played to a 146.4 QB rating by way of completing 19-of-29 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown. He also added another 51 scoreless yards via seven scoreless totes of the rock. His favorite target proved to be Amari Rodgers who hauled in 4-of-5 targets and turned them into 82 yards and a touchdown with 51 of those yards coming after the catch. Birmingham owned a 10+ minute time of possession and 100+ yard advantage, but lost the turnover battle 2-1 allowing D.C. to stick close in the rain.
St. Louis BattleHawks +200
Anthony Becht’s squad saw its odds to win it all shorten up from +250 to +200 after scoring the dominant 32-17 win and cover against the Memphis Showboats. McCarron sizzled completing 35-of-45 passes for 222 yards and 3:1 TD/INT ratio with Jahcour Pearson (10-70-1 TD) and Hakeem Butler (8-61) proving to be his two favorite targets. RB Jacob Saylors also had a solid game turning his 15 overall carries into 103 scoreless yards for an average of 6.9 yards per carry. The defense was of the lockdown variety in limiting Memphis to 127 total net yards while accruing four sacks and an interception. A pair of first half turnovers allowed the Showboats to make a game of it in the first half before St. Louis shut them out in the second half.
The Contenders
San Antonio Brahmas +600
Recently signed QB Quinten Dormady stepped right in under center for the Brahmas and led San Antonio to the 19-9 win and cover against a Michigan squad that actually went off the board favored to defeat them in their home digs. The offense struggled to get anything done on the ground, but Dormady was solid in completing 23-of-37 passes for 269 yards and 1:1 TD/INT ratio.
The Brahmas had a pair of 100+ yards receivers in Justin Smith and Jontre Kirklin, but the lone TD pass went to Marquez Stevenson. Still, it was the Brahmas defense that led the charge with it forcing three turnovers, collecting five sacks, and holding the Panthers to a 2-of-11 showing on third down. Their odds to be the last team standing stayed put at 6-1.
D.C. Defenders +750
Though Reggie Barlow’s troops ultimately came up short at Birmingham, their odds to win the UFL Championship only fattened up to +750 from +700. After taking a quick 6-0 lead minutes into the first quarter, the Defenders would allow the Stallions to rattle off the game’s next 14 points before Ta’amu hooked up with Kelvin Harmon from 45-yards out to make a game of it at the tail end of the third quarter. The teams would then go on to exchange field goals the rest of the way with Ramiz Ahmed’s fourth make of the game from 46-yards out sealing the deal with only four ticks remaining on the game clock. It proved to be a tough pill for D.C. to swallow, but it was ultimately outgained by 105 yards and couldn’t get a stop when it mattered most in the fourth quarter.
