Tarik Skubal +2200
Not only do I think Tarik Skubal has a shot to attain the most wins come the end of the year, but I truly feel the southpaw has a real shot of taking home the AL Cy young Award provided he continues to excel at the level he has through his first six appearances on the starting bump. I made that prognostication well before the baseball betting season began in recommending a flier be taken on the left-hander at 18-1. His current rate of return at Caesars has plummeted all the way down to +300!
The lefty currently has four wins under his belt which sits a single game behind clubhouse leaders Imanaga, Glasnow, Suarez, and Lugo. Of those teams, the Tigers’ bullpen ranks out the best which bodes well for Detroit’s staff ace that’s pitched into the sixth inning in all but one start. The Tigers will be in the thick of the AL Central pennant race all season, and if they ultimately take home bragging rights, you can’t help but think Skubal will be one of the main reasons why.
Bryce Miller +7500
Two weeks into the regular season, pundits and talking heads wanted the head of Scott Servais served up on a silver platter. With all the moves made in the offseason to shore up the roster, there was a strong belief that this team had no business sitting four-games under .500 through 16 played games. Since then, the Mariners have gone 11-4 to catapult itself into the catbird seat of the AL West standings. The starting staff and bullpen are the only two reasons why with the offense still to wake from its offseason slumber.
Seattle currently rates out No. 1 in baseball in the quality start department with Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, and Emerson Hancock doing some of the heavy lifting. Most of it however has been executed by second-year right-hander Bryce Miller whose logged quality starts in all but one of his five made April starts. Truthfully, any of the pitchers mentioned in this blurb will have a shot to cash in on the win leader odds at Caesars with the starting staff backed by a top-5 ranked bullpen that’s converted all but one of its nine save opportunities. I went with Miller here since he’s really impressed early on and offers up the best ROI, but feel free to take fliers on all but Hancock.
Nick Lodolo +8000
I’ve previously expressed my affinity towards Nick Lodolo, suggesting a modest investment in his potential to lead the league in strikeouts by season’s end. Given his early success with three wins in his first four starts, why not consider placing a wager on him in this future odds category as well? There’s significant value to be found, especially considering Lodolo is only a couple wins behind the current leaders and has only made four starts. The left-hander has already shown improvement in various statistical areas, particularly in hits allowed per nine innings (5.6), which makes me optimistic about the potential for further profits backing him on the MLB odds throughout the year.
Of utmost importance is his consistency, as he’s come within four outs of achieving quality starts in all four outings, allowing one run or fewer in three of them. If Lodolo maintains his health and continues his impressive strikeout rate (11.6 K/9) while keeping the ball in the yard (0.4 HR/9), he stands a good chance of surpassing his previous career-high win total and solidifying his status among the league’s top pitchers.
