May 9, 2024The No. 1 seeds in each conference are on display as part of the NBA playoff schedule for Saturday, May 11 with both games airing on ABC. The Boston Celtics vanquished their nemesis in the first round beating Miami in five games setting up a conference semifinal round series with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The NBA championship favorites won Game 1, 120-95, their fourth postseason win by at least 20 points. The scene shifts to Ohio for Game 3 on Saturday. The only regular season meeting in Cleveland resulted in a 105-104 Cavs victory when they were an 8.5-point NBA betting line underdog. . The primetime matchup tips at 8:30 p.m. ET with betting options available at Caesars sportsbook.
The doubleheader starts at 3:30 p.m. ET with Game 3 of the West Semifinal between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks. OKC has been equally impressive this postseason winning its first five games following a 117-95 triumph in Game 1. Defense has been key to the Thunder’s success holding opponents to fewer than 100 points in each of those five games. As a result a NBA bet on the UNDER would have gotten you four wins.

There was only one game on the schedule last Saturday and I made it work hitting a same game parlay in Minnesota’s 106-99 win over the defending champion Denver Nuggets. The Wolves are legit, Anthony Edwards is a stud and Rudy Gobert is the best defensive player in the game. Edwards scored 43 points, Gobert had 13 boards and three blocks, and the Wolves won outright as a 4.5-point underdog on the NBA betting line. I backed Minnesota winning that leg of the parlay and got the payout when the score went UNDER the closing total of 210. I have had success on my postseason NBA picks and parlays and will look to continue the run.
Things typically change when a series switches cities. Homecourt advantage is serious in the NBA more so than any other sports league. However, Boston and OKC bucked that trend with each winning more than 58 percent of their regular season away games and taking the only two road tilts in the first round rather convincingly. The Celtics held Miami to fewer than 90 points in both games with a margin of 17 points. The Cs covered the NBA point spread in both games with the smallest number at 9.5 points.
Boston had a rather easy time dispatching the shorthanded Heat and most felt the Cavaliers series would be tighter. It still can be, but the Celtics were determined in Game 1. Playing without Kristaps Porzingis and with Jayson Tatum struggling with his shot, the Celtics still won by 25 points. Derrick White picked up the scoring slack with 25 points on 7 of 12 three-point shooting. It was a bit different from the regular season series that saw all three games with a single-digit margin, including a Cleveland win.
It feels like Boston is on a mission and it doesn’t matter who plays or who struggles. They have depth to carry the load if one of the stars has a bad night and I think the Celtics will take care of business on the road. They’ve been stellar defensively as well holding opponents to an average of 92.7 points making the UNDER a smart NBA bet.
It’s been a good start to the postseason for OKC. After winning 57 regular season games some thought the Thunder might crack under the pressure. Instead they opened with a sweep of New Orleans and an impressive 117-95 win in Game 1 of the West semifinal. The Mavericks rely on the duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who averaged nearly 60 points between them during the regular season. When one of them has an off night the team tends to struggle. Doncic hit 1 of 8 triples and scored just 19 points in the opener with Irving scoring 20. OKC’s defense is smothering and the Mavs don’t have the secondary scoring to make up the difference. With the NBA odds total falling the teams have enough offensively to cash the OVER, but we’ve seen OKC’s NBA championship odds shrink with their hot start and they aren’t letting up.
