May 21, 2024World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler headlines the field for this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge. This is not a Signature Event, but it still has a prize purse of more than $9 million and the field is a good one. Joining Scheffler are six other players listed in the Top 20 World Rankings, including Collin Morikawa, who was in contention to win last week’s PGA Championship. Scheffler is a big favorite in golf betting odds at Caesars with odds of +280. No other player is remotely close in terms of the betting odds, as Morikawa is second with odds of +1000. Jordan Spieth and Max Homa are the only other players listed at odds of less than +3300, as they are each listed ate +2000. Let’s look at Charles Schwab Challenge odds and picks.

Venue: Colonial Country Club is a par 70 that measures 7,289 yards. The course has undergone some changes, as Gil Hanse was given the job of turning the course into more of its original look when it opened in 1936. Greens have been relocated, some bunkers have been taken out and sightlines are now clearer.
Last Year: Emiliano Grillo won for the second time on the PGA Tour, as he defeated Adam Schenk in a playoff. Grillo blew a two-shot lead with a double-bogey on 18 but he won on the second playoff hole. Scottie Scheffler and Harry Hall tied for third.

Favorite
Scottie Scheffler +280
Not even the great Scottie Scheffler could come through last week as the favorite in the PGA Championship. A bad round on Saturday took him out of contention. Scheffler rebounded nicely on Sunday and finished in the Top 10, but it was a hectic tournament for Scheffler, as he was playing in the aftermath of his wife having their first child and then his ridiculous arrest. Whether Scheffler has had enough time to rest and recover is definitely in debate, but he is without a doubt the top golfer in the world and he is very capable of winning this week.
Golf Picks
Harris English +3300
There is no question that Colonial suits English who is a player who does well on short to medium length courses that are not par 72’s. He is coming off a top 20 finish last week at the PGA and he has played well in the past on this course. He finished 5th in his debut in 2012 and he has a 2nd in 2016 and last year he finished 12th. He led this tournament after two rounds a year ago.
Sepp Straka +5000
Straka didn’t play well enough last week and missed the cut at the PGA, but he is definitely capable of bouncing right back. He had a 5th place finish at Harbour Town, he was 11th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event and he was 8th at Quail Hollow. He finished 29th in this event a year ago. He ranks highly in this field in a number of categories and I think he will contend this week.
Austin Eckroat +6500
You have to like the way that Eckroat is playing in his second PGA Tour season. He won the Cognizant Classic and he has followed up that win with Top 20 finishes at Harbour Town, the Zurich Classic and last week’s PGA Championship. He finished 18th in his debut on this course a year ago. There is no question he plays well in Texas.
Taylor Moore +7500
Moore played well in Houston in March and he is in pretty good form. He finished 12th at Copperhead and he tied for 2nd at Memorial Park. He also finished 20th in the Masters and he was in contention at Quail Hollow until a poor Saturday. He is coming off a top 20 finish last week at the PGA. He lives close to Colonial so he knows this course well.
J.T. Poston +7500
I will throw one other longshot in here and go with Poston. He ranks in the Top 10 on the PGA Tour in terms of driving accuracy and we know that Colonial is a course that demands accuracy off the tee. Poston already has four Top 10 finishes this season.Check out Charles Schwab Challenge odds at Caesars.
