U.S. Open Matchup Picks
June 12, 2024BetMGM Bettors Backing Ohio State and Colorado
June 13, 2024Golf’s third major of the year, the U.S. Open, begins on Thursday and since it is a major, we get a number of props to look at. In addition to the normal win odds and the numerous golf betting matchups, there are U.S. Open props on the board including Hole-in-One, winner nationality, margin of victory, etc. When it comes to golf prop betting, I have had some good success in the past. There are numerous props available at online sportsbooks, including BetMGM. I’ll focus on some of the props there, but I will also include one from DraftKings that has my attention. Let’s look at U.S. Open prop picks.

Will there be a Hole-in-One?
Yes -105
No -150
I know that people like to bet this prop and take the Yes because of the excitement of a hole-in-one, but I like the No this week. Pinehurst No. 2 is a very difficult course and just keeping it on the green will be difficult this week. I think the price at -150 is fair, as I don’t see anyone getting a hole-in-one this week.
Margin of Victory
1 +230
2 +360
Playoff +400
5+ +500
3 +600
4 +900
I’ll pass on this particular prop. It would not surprise me, however, to see a bigger margin of victory than some people expect.
Top Lefty
Brian Harman +200
Robert MacIntyre +220
Akshay Bhatia +250
Phil Mickelson +750
Sam Bairstow +750
The top lefty at the PGA was MacIntyre but Harmon is still considered the better golfer, as he is ranked higher in the latest World Golf Rankings. Harman has proven he can play difficult courses in the past and he is coming off a 12th at the Heritage and a 24th at Colonial. I think Harman is a decent value in this U.S. Open prop.
Top Japanese Golfer
Hideki Matsuyama -125
Takumi Kanaya +500
Ryo Ishikawa +650
Rikuya Hoshino +700
Taisei Shimizu +800
Kiki Kawamoto +1400
If this one seems like a no-brainer, I would agree. Matsuyama is the clear choice to be the top Japanese finisher. He has the type of game that should do well at Pinehurst No. 2, as he is solid in driving and his approach play is very good. I can’t see any of these other Japanese golfers doing much of anything and it would not surprise me if they all missed the cut. I’ll take Matsuyama in this golf betting prop.
Top LIV Golfer
Bryson DeChambeau +370
Brooks Koepka +370
Jon Rahm +450
Cameron Smith +750
Tyrrell Hatton +800
Dean Burmester +950
Dustin Johnson +1200
Adrian Meronk +1900
Sergio Garcia +1900
David Puig +2500
Phil Mickelson +3600
Martin Kaymer +4500
I think Koepka is the best choice among the LIV golfers this week. I said in the matchups article that I think the love for DeChambeau this week has gone too far. We know that Koepka plays well in majors and I simply can’t see DeChambeau keeping the ball in the fairway this week. Rahm pulled out of the LIV event last week so who knows about his health and Cameron Smith has been a disappointing for most of the season. I’ll take Koepka at odds of nearly 4-1.
Big Guns vs. The Field
The Field -200
Big Guns (Scheffler/McIlroy/Schauffele) +150
This prop is available at DraftKings and one that I oftentimes will consider. The problem with it in this case is the price, as I want a lot more than +150 on the big three. I think there is more value simply in taking Scheffler to win at odds of about +300. I don’t like Schauffele’s chances this week and McIlroy has yet to show he can step up and win in the big moment against Scheffler. One thing that does interest me is to simply take The Field at -200 and then also bet Scheffler at +350 or at whatever price is available at +300 or better. If Scheffler wins then we win our single bet on him and if he loses then we cover that bet with The Field wager. The only way we can lose is if McIlroy or Schauffele win the tournament.Check out the latest U.S. Open odds at BetMGM.
