Open Championship Matchup Picks
July 17, 2024MLB Same Game Parlay Picks, Odds & Predictions – Friday, July 19
July 19, 2024It is Open Championship week and that means a multitude a props on the board at online sportsbooks. Whenever a major takes place there is more interest from the general public so you will see a lot more options available like will there be a hole-in-one, will there be a playoff, winning score, winning player’s nationality, etc. This year’s Open Championship takes place at Royal Troon in Scotland and should provide a lot of excitement. Scottie Scheffler is listed as the golf betting favorite at BetMGM. He is ranked No. 1 in the world and is a deserving favorite. Let’s look at some of the Open Championship props available and some Open Championship prop picks.
Will There be a Hole-in-One?
Yes -175
No +140
There is definitely a chance for a hole-in-one on the par 3 eighth hole, known as “The Postage Stamp” that measures just 123 yards. It seems that we get a hole-in-one in every major nowadays and the Yes is a solid favorite in this Open Championship prop.
Scottie Scheffler to Finish in the Top 10 (Including Ties)
Yes -200
I am a big fan of Scheffler and I talked about him in the him in the odds preview, and there is no question he is playing better than anyone in the world right now. I would be shocked if he doesn’t finish in the Top 10 and I have no problem laying the price of -200. If you don’t want to lay the 2-1 price, I am comfortable taking him to finish in the Top 5 at even money.
Big Guns vs. The Field (Fan Duel)
The Field -215
Big Guns (Scheffler/McIlroy/Aberg, Schauffele) +164
Big Guns vs. The Field (DraftKings)
The Field -310
Big Guns (Scheffler/McIlroy/Aberg) +220
I oftentimes will look at this prop that is offered at FanDuel and DraftKings. I listed both numbers here with the only difference being that you get Xander Schauffele as part of the Big Guns at Fan Duel. As I have said in the past, I usually like the Big Guns, but I also usually like their individual prices simply to win the tournament. The advantage to playing this prop and taking the Big Guns is that if you lose it is just one wager instead of three losses if you play each player individually. I would still lean toward making the individual wagers, as there is more value in odds of 5-1, 8-1 and 14-1 on Scheffler, McIlroy and Aberg respectively.
Top Spanish Player
Jon Rahm -160
David Puig +650
Jorge Campillo +700
Angel Hidalgo +1000
Nacho Elvira +1200
Luis Masaveu +2000
Jaime Montojo +2200
You can find a lot of props on player nationality and out of all of the nationality props I like this one the best. Rahm is just a -160 favorite against a bunch of players who you would have a hard time even recognizing. I think Rahm should be at least a 3-1 favorite in this prop, if not higher. We get the benefit of not even having to deal with Sergio Garcia as a threat, as he didn’t qualify for the Open. Nothing in sports betting is a guarantee but this bet on Rahm looks like a really good play.
Tiger Woods to Make the Cut
Yes +220
No -350
I am really surprised at the number on Tiger making the cut. I know he has not played well at the past couple of majors but all indications are that he feels as good as he has felt in a long time and Royal Troon is a course where he can work his way around the course without needing a lot of distance off the tee. There are two things that makes me want to take the Yes in this prop. First, the price. I can’t believe we are getting more than 2-1 on the Yes. Second, Woods has said that he believes the Open Championship gives him the best opportunity to contend for a win. He realizes that there are certain things his body can’t do any longer, but most of his weaknesses are negated on a course like Royal Troon. I think Tiger will make the cut and getting +220 is a bargain.Check out the latest Open Championship odds at BetMGM.
