July 25, 2024The SEC will look different this season with Texas and Oklahoma in the conference, but the overall favorite to win the SEC this season is still the Georgia Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are listed at odds of +190 at Caesars to win the SEC in 2024. Georgia is a powerhouse under head coach Kirby Smart and they return quarterback Carson Beck who looked really good last year as the starter. Usually when the SEC is talked about it is normally Georgia and Alabama who get the most attention. That is not the case this season, as Texas has taken over the second spot behind Georgia. Let’s look at SEC title game winning odds, the top contenders, darkhorses and SEC title picks.

Georgia (+190)
Georgia under Kirby Smart is always a threat to win not only the SEC, but the national title. They return Carson Beck at quarterback and he has an excellent offensive line in front of him. Georgia also adds Florida transfer Trevor Etienne in the backfield. The defense under Smart is always good and this year Georgia has a couple of All-American candidates in Mykel Williams and Malaki Starks.
Texas +320
The new challenger to Georgia in the SEC will be Texas under head coach Steve Sarkisian. The Longhorns return quarterback Quinn Ewers who is going to be one of the top picks in next year’s NFL Draft. Texas brought in some receiving help for Ewers in Alabama’s Isaiah Bond, Houston’s Matthew Golden and Oregon State’s Silas Bolden. The question for Texas will be a defense that lost a lot of talent.
Darkhorse Contenders
Alabama +650
The Crimson Tide no longer have Nick Saban on the sideline, so it will be interesting to see how they do under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. The Tide will still be good, but whether they will be a perennial SEC title contender is in question. The Tide lost safety Caleb Downs and receiver Isaiah Bond in the transfer window so that doesn’t help entering this season. Alabama does return quarterback Jalen Milroe and since DeBoer is considered an offensive coach, the Tide should be fine on offense, but the defense could be an issue.
Mississippi +700
Lane Kiffin is trying to lead Ole Miss to their first conference title since 1963. Ole Miss is going to score points, as they return quarterback Jaxson Dart. Mississippi was very active in the transfer portal, ranking first in the country, led by Walter Nolen from Texas A&M, Princely Umanmielen from Florida and Antwane “Juice” Wells from South Carolina. There is a lot to like about Mississippi this season.
Missouri +900
The Tigers are loaded on offense with quarterback Brady Cook and wide receiver Luther Burden returning. The defense is a concern, as they have to replace a number of starters and they have a new coordinator in Corey Batoon. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz has done a nice job at Missouri and the Tigers are not without a chance in 2024.
LSU +900
LSU lost Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jayden Daniels to the NFL, so it will be up to Garrett Nussmeier to lead the Tigers this season. LSU will need to be a lot better on defense than they were a year ago if they are to have any chance to contend in the SEC this season.
Longshots
Everyone else is listed at double-digit odds and it is hard to see how Texas A&M, Tennessee or Oklahoma can make an impact and there is virtually no chance for Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.
SEC Title Pick
I am not going against Kirby Smart and Georgia, as they are simply a powerhouse that wins every year. I’ll go with Georgia and at least we get nearly 2-1 college football odds. Maybe Texas can make some noise, but I am not taking them. I think there is more value in backing Mississippi as a darkhorse in NCAA football odds than taking the Longhorns.Make your college football bets right now at Caesars.
