August 12, 2024CFB Futures – 2024 Utah Utes Win Total Odds
August 13, 2024The SEC is going to look different this season with the addition of Oklahoma and Texas. There will no longer be two divisions, as all 16 teams will compete against each other in the standings. The top two teams in the standings at the end of the season will meet in the SEC Championship game. The Georgia Bulldogs return 16 starters from last season including quarterback Carson Beck and they are listed as the favorite at odds of +190 at Caesars. Not far behind the Bulldogs in terms of SEC title odds are the Texas Longhorns at +300. Texas returns quarterback Quinn Ewers and they might be the biggest threat to Georgia this season. Those two teams look to be the top two contenders, but other teams like Alabama, Mississippi, LSU and Missouri are not without a chance. Also worth considering could be Texas A&M, Tennessee and Oklahoma. Let’s look at SEC title odds and SEC title picks.

Favorites
Georgia Bulldogs +190
Georgia failed in their attempt to win a third straight national title last season, but they may get right back to the title game this season. The Bulldogs are not just the preseason favorite to win the SEC, but they are the preseason favorite to win the national title. Heisman Trophy contender Carson Beck is back and he has a lot of talent around him. The only concern for Georgia is a very difficult schedule that has them playing four of the other top six teams in the SEC.
Texas Longhorns +300
The Longhorns head into their first SEC season as a serious contender to win the title. Quarterback Quinn Ewers returns for head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas should be very potent again on offense. The defense has seven starters returning and they added edge rusher Trey Moore from UTSA. Anything less than an SEC title game appearance for the Longhorns would be a disappointment.
Darkhorse Contenders
Alabama Crimson Tide +650
The Crimson Tide start a new era, as Nick Saban is gone. It will be up to Kalen DeBoer to keep up the Alabama winning tradition. He has a lot of returning talent, including quarterback Jalen Milroe. DeBoer is known as an offensive coach so Alabama should score plenty of points this season. The question is how good the defense will be.
Ole Miss Rebels +675
The Rebels won 11 games last season and they are capable of winning 11 again in 2024. The Rebels brought in a lot of transfers and they still have one of the top quarterbacks in the country in Jaxson Dart and a top receiver in Tre Harris. The Rebels might be a live darkhorse in the SEC this season.
LSU Tigers +900
The Tigers bring in defensive coordinator Blake Baker from Missouri to fix what was a rotten defense a year ago. LSU will be hoping that Garrett Nussmeier is the answer at quarterback because Jayden Daniels is now in the NFL.
Missouri Tigers +900
The Tigers won 11 games last season and they return two of the top offensive players in the conference in quarterback Brady Cook and receiver Luther Burden III. The Tigers get a favorable schedule that has them missing Georgia, Texas and Mississippi. They do have a road test at Alabama in late October and a win against the Tide might just get Missouri into the mix for the SEC title.
Longshots
There are three longshots worth considering, as Texas A&M is listed at +1200, Tennessee at +1400 and Oklahoma at +1600. It is a big drop then to Auburn at +5000 and the odds get longer on Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.
Texas A&M has a new head coach in Mike Elko and he should have a strong defense in his first season led by Nic Scourton from Purdue. The Aggies get quarterback Conner Wiegman back from injury and that should help the offense. Tennessee has former five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava to lead the offense and they boast edge rusher James Pearce Jr. who looks like a future NFL star. The Sooners have a new quarterback in Jackson Arnold and a solid defense led by linebacker Danny Stutsman.
SEC Title Pick
I am not going against Kirby Smart when he returns so many starters, so Georgia is my pick to win the SEC this season. I don’t know that I trust Sarkisian and Texas, so I’ll go with the chalk and take the Bulldogs. If I was going to back a couple other teams, they would be Ole Miss and Missouri, as both teams might have the offenses to at least throw a scare into Georgia.Make your college football bets right now at Caesars.
