Favorite
Dean Burmester +1400
If you have followed me with the PGA picks you will already know that I don’t take many golf betting favorites. There is simply no value in taking golf favorites because they don’t win enough. That is the case on the PGA Tour and the European Tour. Burmester is ranked just No. 57 on the DP World Tour Rankings and while he will have the “home” advantage being from South Africa, I don’t know that he should be listed as the favorite. It takes a lot for me to back a favorite and I am not backing Burmester at this price.
Value Picks
Adri Arnaus +1800
Arnaus seems to be rounding into form with three straight top 10 finishes. I think there is more value on Arnaus than there is in taking Burmester and I don’t see much separating the two. I’ll take Arnaus at 18-1.
Thomas Detry +2800
If Detry is ever going to break into the win column on the European Tour then this could be the week. The field in South Africa is nothing special and Detry can definitely contend. He has played well in South Africa in the past and a win this week would not be a surprise.
Richard Bland +3300
Bland is 49-years old and he has a ton of experience on the European Tour and on the Sunshine Tour. He is still capable of putting together strong finishes and he could be in the mix this week.
JC Ritchie +3500
Ritchie has been playing well this season on the Sunshine Tour and he already has two wins. Ritchie will be playing in his home country and he has had a lot of success in South Africa through the years. Ritchie could hit at nice longshot odds this week.
Shaun Norris +6000
I am really surprised the odds on Norris are this high. He has won in the past on the Sunshine Tour and he has won multiple times on the Japan Tour. He lives in Pretoria so he will feel very comfortable this week. He could be in the mix this week and have a real chance to get his first European Tour win. Norris also leads all players in the field this week in most points scored in DP World Tour/Sunshine Tour events.
Zander Lombard +6000
Another live longshot this week is Lombard at odds of 60-1. He has played well in the past in South Africa and he has played well this season with a tie for third in Ras Al Khaimah. I’ll take a flyer on him at big odds.
