Crypto.com Showdown Odds and Picks

Four of the top golfers in the world will compete in the Crypto.com Showdown on Tuesday night on TNT. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will team up with World No. 3 Rory McIlroy against LIV stars Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau. The team of Scheffler and McIlroy are listed as the -150 favorite in golf betting odds. While the event will be similar in some respects to “The Match” series that TNT has shown in the past, there will be some definite differences. Let’s look at the Crypto.com Showdown and picks.

The Crypto.com Showdown will take place on Tuesday at the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas and will begin at 6 pm Eastern Time and be shown live on TNT and Max. The event will have a multi-million dollar prize purse and be paid out in cryptocurrency. Crypto.com had this statement about the payout. “Crypto.com’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to cryptocurrency and today’s announcement is our latest effort by introducing the world’s first major golf tournament with a purse in CRO cryptocurrency.” The teams are Scheffler and McIlroy vs. Koepka and DeChambeau. While it sounds like a good rivalry match between PGA and LIV stars, there has not been a lot of trash talk. “We’re going to do something basically outside of either tour, to give something back to the fans,” McIlroy said to the media, “To show them, you know, at least let them know that we’re trying to provide entertainment—the players want to play together more often.”

The event will be an 18-hole team event that will have three stages of six holes each. The first stage will be best ball and that has each player playing their own ball with the lowest score of the team player counting on the hole. The second stage is alternate shot and that means teammates will alternate shots on each hole. The final stage will have normal singles play.

The TNT broadcast will be live with Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley calling the action with Trevor Immelman, David Feherty, Bubba Watson and Lauren Jbara on providing coverage on the course. Three of the four players have previous experience in this type of event, as Koepka and DeChambeau played against each other in “The Match: Bryson vs. Brooks,” and McIlroy beat Max Homa, Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang in “The Match IX.”

I am surprised the odds on the team of Scheffler and McIlroy are not more in the range of -200. You never know in team events how things will go so perhaps that is why they are listed at just -150. One thing I do know is that Scheffler is the best player among the four and it really isn’t that close. I say all the time that betting golf favorites is not profitable except when it comes to Scheffler. He is the one player you can sometimes take as the favorite, as he has won nine times this season including a recent victory at the Hero World Challenge. McIlroy has four wins this year, so he is the second-best player among the four. Koepka won twice in the LIV Tour this season, while DeChambeau won the U.S. Open.
