It was an NBA same game parlay loser on Saturday, December 21st with the New York Knicks just barely covering the spread against the New Orleans Pelicans in a game that went well under the total. The Knicks defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 104-93 on Saturday night, as Jalen Brunson scored a season-high 39 points, 29 of which came in the second half. Jalen Brunson was on fire in the third quarter, hitting 16 points—13 of which were consecutive—during a 22-6 run that put New York ahead 74-71 and reversed a 65-52 deficit. To increase the lead to 95-81, Brunson scored nine of the Knicks’ first 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Trey Murphy III led New Orleans with 26 points, but the team fell for the fifteenth time in its past 16 games. For New Orleans, Dejounte Murray scored an additional 14 points. Since defeating Phoenix 126-124 on December 5, New Orleans had not had a double-digit lead in a game. Brandon Boston’s 3-pointer halfway through the second quarter gave the Pelicans a 45-32 lead, but they struggled in the closing minutes of the first half and throughout much of the second half. After falling down 65-52 halfway through the third quarter, the Knicks crushed the Pelicans with a 43-14 run in the third and fourth quarters to take a 95-81 lead. Brunson made 13 of 19 shots from the field, including 6 of 6 from the line and 7 of 10 from long range.

New York is coming off a game in Minnesota on Thursday night. The Knicks were 16-10 SU and 12-13-1 ATS in their first 26 games with 14 games going over the total and 12 going under. Can New York put that game behind them and focus on a bad New Orleans team on Saturday night? I don’t know, but I think there is some value on the Pelicans in this one. It is really a coin flip with the total, but I don’t know how much New York will be committed to playing defense in this one. I’ll take the Pelicans and the game over the total.
