NHL Picks – Colorado Hosts Pittsburgh for ABC Saturday Matinee
March 29, 2022Final Four Preview – Duke Blue Devils vs. North Carolina Tar Heels
March 29, 2022The last chance for players to tune-up for the Masters is this week’s Valero Texas Open where Jordan Spieth is the defending champion. Oftentimes players will take the week off and just head to Augusta, but there is a good contingent of top ranked players in this week’s field including five of the world’s top 20 players. World No. 8 Rory McIlroy is listed as the favorite to win this event at SugarHouse Sportsbook. I have had good overall success with the matchups, but last week’s match play was a bit of a struggle and it didn’t help that Paul Casey withdrew from his match after getting off to a good start. Let’s get back on track with five matchups this week. Let’s look at this week’s Valero Texas Open matchup picks.
Defending Champion: Jordan Spieth

Golf Picks
Abraham Ancer -146 vs. Bryson DeChambeau
Ancer seems to be finding his form ahead of the Masters, as he reached the quarterfinals last week at the Match Play event. He has played well at TPC San Antonio including a tie for 23rd last year. It is hard to see DeChambeau suddenly finding his game. He was all over the place last week at the Match Play and I can’t see him turning the corner quite yet. I will take Ancer in this matchup.
Adam Hadwin +104 vs. Tony Finau
I am really surprised that Hadwin is listed as the underdog in this matchup. Hadwin is playing well with a tie for 9th at TPC Sawgrass and a tie for 7th at Copperhead. He tied for 23rd in this event a year ago. Finau looks completely lost right now with his game and is a go-against. I will take Hadwin in this matchup.
Kevin Streelman -126 vs. Brendan Steele
Streelman seems to have put things together of late with three top 25 finishes in his last four starts. He has made the cut in all six previous tries in this event and has two Top 10 finishes. He has five top 20 finishes in this event. I will lay the small price and take Streelman.
Chris Kirk -112 vs. Si Woo Kim
Kirk has played well of late with a tie for 14th in Phoenix, a tie for 7th at the Honda and a tie for 5th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He has played well at the Valero Texas Open with three top 10 finishes. I think Kirk is the clear choice in this matchup and we get a fair price.
Maverick McNealy -142 vs. Jason Day
It is hard to believe that McNealy didn’t lose a match last week and still couldn’t make it out of the group stage. He is definitely in good form and the same cannot be said about Day. You might have been surprised to see McNealy listed as the favorite in this matchup, but based on current form it should not be a surprise. I will take McNealy in this matchup.
