April 14, 2022If you were expecting a weak field this week for the RBC Heritage since it is the week after the Masters, you will be surprised. Half of the world’s top-ranked players are in the field. Collin Morikawa is ranked No. 2 in the world and he is joined by Cameron Smith, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson. I am coming off a 2-3 week with the matchup picks at the Masters, but we had some bad luck as Louis Oosthuizen withdrew and that cost us a sure win against Bryson DeChambeau. Let’s look at this week’s RBC Heritage matchup picks.
Defending Champion: Stewart Cink

Golf Picks
Collin Morikawa -110 vs. Patrick Cantlay
Morikawa is third on the PGA Tour in all-around and his short game will thrive on a course like this one. Morikawa comes in after playing really well in the Masters, but he was never in real contention, so that may also help his cause, as there is no letdown to worry about. Cantlay has slipped a bit in the past couple of months and last year he didn’t even make the cut in this event. I’ll take Morikawa in this matchup.
Matthew Fitzpatrick -105 vs. Cameron Smith
I can’t see anything other than a letdown this week for Cameron Smith. Maybe he can play at a high level again and if so, kudos to him, but I am going against him. Fitzpatrick has played well in this event with a tie for fourth and two tie for 14th finishes. He is also in very good form of late. I’ll take Fitzpatrick in this matchup.
Corey Conners -115 vs. Russell Henley
Corey Conners continues to play well with a number of good finishes and he has played well at Harbour Town in the past with a tie for 21st in 2020 and he tied for fourth last year. Henley has been all over the map in recent months, so it is hard to count on him being consistent this week. I’ll take Conners in this matchup.
Chris Kirk -115 vs. Si Woo Kim
Kirk has played well of late with a tie for 14th, a tie for 7th and a tie for 5th. He is 11 on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: Tee-to-Green. He also finished in a tie for 7th in this event a year ago. I have said it before with Si Woo Kim in that you usually know by the close of play on Friday how well he will do, as he is oftentimes all or nothing. I’ll go with Kirk in this one.
Webb Simpson -120 vs. Maverick McNealy
Simpson stumbled in the final round of the Masters, but the good news is that he is healthy. He has played really well at Harbour Town through the years with a win in 2020 and a tie for second in 2013. He has eight top 20 finishes in this event. I’ll lay the small price and take Simpson.
