RBC Canadian Open Matchups Picks
June 8, 2022LIV London Odds and Prediction
June 8, 2022We’ll have another title fight on our hands this weekend as DAZN presents a card headlined by Hiroto Kyoguchi and Esteban Bermudez. Kyoguchi is the belt holder, boasting both the WBA (Super) Light Flyweight and the Ring Magazine World Light Flyweight titles. He’ll put those titles on the line against the rising Bermudez, who’s looking to become a champion in his own right.
Kyoguchi landed the WBA belt after beating Hekkie Budler back in December of 2018. He’s successfully defended that honor three straight fights, most recently taking down Axel Aragon Vega in March of last year.
Kyoguchi has now improved his record to a perfect 15-0 while staking claim as a world champion. Of those 15 bouts, he’s won via knockout on 10 occasions. The remaining five victories have come by way of unanimous decision.
While Kyoguchi has been impressive thus far in his career, Bermudez is a belt holder in his own right. The Mexican boxer boasts the title of WBA (Regular) Light Flyweight champion.
The match on Friday will give him an opportunity to become the sole champ at the Light Flyweight level.
Bermudez has won 14 fights while losing three and seeing a pair of draws. Of the 14 victories, 10 have come by way of knockout. He’s won four of his six matchups since 2019, taking down Carlos Canizales, Javier Marquez Clemente, Oswaldo Novoa, and Gabriel Ramirez. He’s also dropped one bout over that time while recording a draw in the other.
Bermudez’s last victory over Canizales landed him the WBA (Regular) Light Flyweight belt. He’ll look to hang on to it a bit longer as he preps for the upcoming showdown with Kyoguchi.
Let’s take a quick look at the fight as BetMaker gives a preview, prediction, and best bet for the outcome of the championship bout.

Betting Odds
The odds for this fight are not yet live at Sugar House Sportsbook but we should have an idea of which way Vegas is leaning. The champion Kyoguchi will likely enter this bout as the clear-cut favorite. Some are predicting that advantage to be as much as 1/5 or -500, meaning a $500 bet will net you a $100 win should Kyoguchi leave with a win.
As for the underdog Bermudez, he’ll enter with an uphill battle but he shouldn’t be ruled out. While he won’t come into the fight with the fanfare, he’s far from a longshot to win this bout. Early lines are seeing him as a possible 3/1 or +300 contender, meaning a $100 wager could net a $300 payout should Bermudez pull off the upset.
This bout will be highly entertaining, but there should be more to wager on than just the outcome. Look for a method of victory and length of fight props, too.
We’re thinking this one ends in a knockout by one side as both of these punchers possess KO power. Of the 29 combined victories, 20 have come by way of the knockout. It’s also worth noting that one of Bermudez’s three losses was a result of him being knocked cold in a matchup against Francisco Perez Cardenas.
With a potential knockout looming, don’t expect this one to go to the final bell. While Kyoguchi has gone the distance against four of his last nine opponents, he began his career with six straight KOs. Each of Bermudez’s last three wins have come by knockout, leading us to believe that this one will end before the 12 rounds are up.
DAZN Boxing Prediction
Everything appears to be lining up for a Bermudez win. He’ll get the luxury of taking on Kyoguchi in his own backyard with the fight taking place in Mexico. He’s also fresh off of the best win of his career, knocking out Carlos Canizales as an underdog to land the WBA (Regular) Light Flyweight belt.
Still, Kyoguchi might be a task too tall. The 28-year-old is the favorite for a reason, and we’re taking him to keep his undefeated record intact.
Prediction: Hiroto Kyoguchi
Best Bet: Fight to end in TKO (by either fighter)
