NFL Week 4 Totals Picks
September 27, 2022NFL Week 4 Parlay Picks
September 27, 2022The biggest event in Esports is set to start on Thursday. The 2022 League of Legends World Championship will kick off in Mexico City with 12 teams taking part in the Play-In Stage. Those 12 teams are fighting for four spots in the Group Stage, and there isn’t a lot of margin for error given the format.
2022 League of Legends Worlds Group Stage Betting Odds
Group A
T1 -125
Edward Gaming +125
Cloud9 +1400
Play-In Qualifier +1600
Three-time League of Legends World Championship winners T1 are favored to win this group. T1 were the best Korean team during the Spring Split, but bottom laner Gumayusi struggled during the Summer Split. Faker is no longer the overpowering force he was in the past, yet Keria is an elite support and Zeus is a very good top laner. That has many people giving them the edge here, but the better bet is probably Edward Gaming to win Group A at +125.
EDG return their entire roster from last year’s Worlds winning team. Viper is still one of the best bottom laners in the world, and Meiko and Scout are veterans that have years of experience playing together. The big question with EDG is whether or not the jungle combination of Jiejie and JunJia can deliver. Top laner Flandre is reliable, and EDG can top T1 if he doesn’t get steamrolled by Zeus.
Group B
JD Gaming -300
DWG KIA +333
G2 Esports +1000
Play-In Qualifier +2000
This is the proverbial Group of Death. JD Gaming are one of the tournament favorites after winning the LPL Summer Split Finals, and they will face 2020 Worlds champion DWG KIA and 2019 Worlds runner-up G2 Esports.
JDG boast an elite jungler in Kanavi. They brought back long-time mid laner Yagao, and they revamped their roster by adding top laner 369 and a new bottom lane this offseason. Hope and Missing have been superb in the bottom lane, outdueling Top Esports, and they have to be considered the team to beat in this group given what we have seen from everyone else.
It will be interesting to see what happens with DWG KIA at this tournament. They have been to the Worlds Finals in back-to-back years, but this team doesn’t look as strong as either of those teams. Nuguri is not the hard-carry top lane he was a couple years ago, and the bottom lane has not been as reliable.
In any other group, G2 Esports would stand a good chance of making it to the knockout rounds. However, they will have a hard time getting past JD Gaming and a team that has dominated them recently in DWG KIA. G2 has an inexperienced bottom lane and a top laner that can get bullied now that he is facing other elite top laners.
Group C
Top Esports -600
Play-In Qualifier +650
Rogue +1000
GAM Esports +2500
There’s no denying that Top Esports is the team to beat in Group C. They are the most talented LPL team that has yet to win Worlds (with apologies to Royal Never Give Up). Knight and JackeyLove are two of the most skilled players in the world, and they can take over any match.
The Play-In Qualifier in this group would be DRX if the LCK squad makes it through the Play-In Stage. While it is tempting to back an LCK team at +650 to win its group, there isn’t a position where DRX is more talented than Top Esports except perhaps support.
Group D
Gen.G -250
Play-In Qualifier +200
100 Thieves +2000
CTBC Flying Oyster +5000
Arguably, the overall favorites at Worlds are Gen.G. The two-time World Champions should not be tested in a group with 100 Thieves and CTBC Flying Oyster, and their toughest competition is likely to be the Play-In Qualifier from either Europe (MAD Lions or Fnatic) or China (Royal Never Give Up). Gen. G has stars at every position except top laner Doran, and Chovy is out to prove he is the best mid-laner in the world. Ruler and Lehends are a great bottom lane tandem, and Peanut is arguably the best jungler in the history of League of Legends.
