January 6, 2023This week’s fight between Gervonta Davis and Hector Luis Garcia was thrown into question last week after Davis was arrested yet again. Police in Florida arrested Gervonta Davis on charges of domestic violence just two days after Christmas, leading to plenty of doubt regarding whether or not this doubt would take place. The show will go on despite the incident though, and Davis is a heavy favorite by the boxing betting odds against Garcia.

Gervonta Davis vs. Hector Luis Garcia Preview
It’s a shame that Gervonta Davis continues to deal with legal trouble as he is clearly one of the best boxers of his generation. Davis has been arrested five times since he won his first title in January 2017, and that has made it difficult to book major fights for him. There is no denying his talent and flair though, and that’s why he is 27-0 with 25 knockouts to his name.
Davis turned pro shortly after winning the 2012 Golden Gloves at bantamweight. His first professional fight took place in February 2013, and he knocked out his first 13 opponents within the first four rounds. That set the stage for a title shot in January 2017, and he earned a seventh-round TKO against Jose Pedraza to claim the IBF super featherweight title. Davis defended the title once, but he was forced to relinquish the belt after failing to make weight in an eighth-round knockout of Francisco Fonseca.
Still, his dominance led to him challenging for the WBA super featherweight belt eight months later, and he scored a third-round TKO of Jesus Cuellar. Davis had no trouble in his title defenses this time with a first-round TKO of Hugo Ruiz and a second-round TKO of Ricardo Nunez before making the move up to lightweight.
In late 2019, Davis faced Yuriorkis Gamboa for the WBA lightweight championship, and in his toughest test yet, he had to settle for a 12th round TKO. That victory earned Davis his first headline PPV card, and he made the most of it by knocking Leo Santa Cruz out in the sixth round for the WBA lightweight and WBA super featherweight belts. The fight was pretty close through the first five rounds, but Davis stopped Santa Cruz dead in his tracks with one of the biggest knockouts you’ll see in a major fight.
Davis claimed the WBA super lightweight belt in June 2021, and he has successfully defended the WBA lightweight belt three times now. He is expected to take care of business against Hector Luis Garcia too, and that’s why Garcia is such a big underdog on the boxing betting line. Boxing fans are already looking forward to Davis’ scheduled superfight with Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas in mid-April too.
Hector Luis Garcia is known as The Android. Garcia is also unbeaten in his professional career, but he doesn’t have the same power as Davis and has had to settle for three No Contest finishes. His professional record is 16-0-3, and he has just 10 knockouts to his credit.
Each of Garcia’s last three fights has gone to the judges’ scorecards. He scored a unanimous decision victory over Chris Colbert last February to set up a title showdown with Roger Gutierrez for the WBA super featherweight belt that Davis relinquished to move to lightweight. The fight was supposed to take place in Gutierrez’s home country of Venezuela, but it was moved to Florida, and Garcia took advantage of the change of scenery. Garcia dominated the first eight rounds of the fight, and he simply held on and avoided a knockout over the last four rounds to get the victory.
Gervonta Davis vs. Hector Luis Garcia Prediction
Garcia does have a height advantage and a reach advantage over Davis, but there’s no doubt that Davis is a superior fighter. As long as he is focused on the task at hand and not distracted with his personal issues, he should be able to secure another knockout.
