BetRivers January 2023 Bonus
January 10, 2023College Basketball Betting Picks – Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. BYU Cougars
January 11, 2023We get a full field this week at the Sony Open in Hawaii where Tom Kim is listed as the golf betting favorite at BetRivers. This event does not have the star power of last week but it is still a solid field and this week we get some national television coverage with NBC televising the weekend action. I am coming off a 1-2-1 week in last week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions, as a withdrawal in the second round by Xander Schauffele hurt us. Let’s look at Sony Open in Hawaii Matchup picks.
Defending Champion: Hideki Matsuyama
Tournament Notes: This event takes place at Waialae which is a par 70 that really hasn’t changed much in the last 15 years. It is all about hitting greens and making putts, so shorter hitters have a definite chance to win this week. It should be noted that eight of the last nine winners of this event played the Sentry the previous week. Another fact worth mentioning is that other than Russell Henley, no golfer has won the Sony in their first try since the first Sony in 1965.

McNealy, Maverick -120 vs. Si Woo Kim
We know how important putting is on this course and McNealy is one of the best putters on the PGA Tour. He finished in a tie for 27th in his Sony debut a year ago and I expect him to be much better in his second try. He had four top 20 finishes in the fall and this course suits his game really well. I’ll lay the small price and take McNealy.
Bradley, Keegan -125 vs. Spaun, J.J.
Bradley has three top 15 finishes at Waialae and this course really fits him well, as he hits at lot of greens and putts well. Spaun played well last week at Kapalua with a tie for 5th but he has been awful at Waialae in his career. I will lay the small price and take Bradley.
Bezuidenhout, Christiaan -126 vs. Kitayama, Kurt
Bezuidenhout finished last year well with a couple of top five finishes in South Africa and he played well in this event a year ago with a tie for 17th. We know that Bezuidenhout is a very good putter so it makes sense he would do well on this course. I’ll take him in this matchup against Kitayama.
Conners, Corey -122 vs. Hoge, Tom
Another good putter is Conners who finished in a tie for 3rd in this event in 2019. He has three top 15 finishes in the Sony overall. I know that Hoge played well last week but I don’t think this course fits his game as well as Kapalua. And in something unrelated, Hoge is a former Horned Frog and his TCU team got destroyed on Monday night. I’ll take Conners in this matchup.
Grillo, Emiliano -120 vs. English, Harris
English has the game for this course, as he hits a lot of greens and putts well. I don’t know that he is getting enough respect and he was one of my longshot picks in the BetMaker picks article. I’ll take English in this matchup.
