Big East Futures Odds Betting – Don’t Bury the UConn Huskies Just Yet
January 25, 2023Massachusetts Makes Amendment to Betting Ads
January 25, 2023The Mountain West Conference was incredibly competitive a season ago and looked to have a number of entrants head to the NCAA tournament that could spring an upset or two to make a deep run. It didn’t come to pass with all three teams failing to get out of the first round and the other failing to get out of the First Four. The Boise State Broncos won the regular season (2) and conference (1) titles and remains in the mix to hold onto bragging rights heading into the final week of January.
Right now, it’s Brian Dutcher’s San Diego State Aztecs that are the odds-on favorite to come out on top of the heap. But as wide open the MWC is to this juncture, CBB futures bettors are getting limited value backing Matt Bradley and co. at the current price point; that is unless you think the expected winner is a bargain at the reduced price point. I just don’t think there’s enough offensive firepower on the roster to hang with the upper tier of this loaded conference with it all on the line.
Let’s dig into the current Mountain West regular season title futures odds and see where the value lies. The following are my favorite, underdog, and longshot recommendations to add to the portfolio at BetRivers Sportsbook.

Favorite to Bet: Boise State Broncos +350
The Boise State Broncos bled my bankroll last year. While the team ended up going 16-14 against the college basketball odds, it felt like I lost every time I either backed or faded them. Thankfully, the college basketball gods remembered how terribly Leon Rice’s kids treated me and allowed the Broncos to add to my bottom line the handful of times I’ve gotten involved with one of their games. Though Abu Kigab, Emmanuel Akot, and Miaden Armus are no longer in the mix, the Broncos have fared just fine coming out winners in 15 of 20 played games which includes a 5-2 start in MWC play. Most importantly, the team has logged point spread covers at an impressive 13-5-1 clip.
While negative regression is bound to hit in the betting department, it doesn’t mean the squad still isn’t ripe to win a majority of its games and be in a position to defend its regular season title. Marcus Shaver Jr. is still the gamer he was a season ago and is now a year wiser. Max Rice has amped his game in recent weeks, while Tyson Degenhart has taken a big step forward in his sophomore campaign. This team is a grand total of 4 points away from being undefeated in MWC play with the pair of losses coming by a bucket each at Nevada and New Mexico. KenPom ranks the Broncos the highest in the conference and I agree wholeheartedly!
Underdog to Bet: New Mexico Lobos +1000
The overtime loss at Nevada opens up a mini window to get a piece of Richard Pitino’s kids at a slight bump in value. While unattractive backing a 10-1 dog when they initially hit the board at 60-1 to win the MWC regular season title, the book is out on this New Mexico Lobos squad and it’s a good read! Though Boise State (No. 25) and San Diego State (No. 27) rank out higher on the Pomeroy Ratings (No. 43), this team looks to have all the intangibles to win the regular season title for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
The backcourt duo of Jamal Mashburn Jr. (19.3 PPG) and Jaelen House (17.3 PPG/4.8 APG) is arguably one of the best in the conference, while Morris Udeze (15.7 PPG/8.5 RPG) – formerly of Wichita State – has proven to be an integral piece to the team’s unforeseen success. The offense is one of the more efficient in the country (No. 35) and it pushes pace at a breakneck pace (No. 23). It also does a great job limiting turnovers (No. 56). The defense hits the glass and locks the perimeter down holding the opposition to a sub 20 percent conversion rate (No. 33). I love the look of this team and it only opposes four winning teams in conference till the end of the season. The Lobos can rattle off six straight wins before going into Boise Feb 22 – BUY NOW!
Longshot to Bet: Wyoming Cowboys +25000
While it would take a miracle for the Wyoming Cowboys to come back and win the conference crown considering it just amassed its first MWC win over Colorado State this past weekend, Wyoming is bound to get its walking wounded back onto the hardwood sooner rather than later. Should Graham Ike be one of those players, Wyoming will immediately become one of the more clamored for sides to back at this rate of return.
Jeff Linder’s troops sat only behind the Aztecs as one of the favorites to win the regular season title before tipping it off. There’s talent on this team, and the next few weeks afford it the ability to crawl back into the race with the top tier teams all cannibalizing themselves. If the team can return to health, you best make it a point to target Hunter Maldonado and his mates to at the very least make a run to win the MWC tournament with it possibly it’s only option to return to the Big Dance after getting bounced in the First Four by Indiana.
