NFC Championship Betting Picks – 49ers vs. Eagles
January 27, 2023Super Tuesday College Hoops Parlay Legs
January 30, 2023It’s championship Sunday which means all eyes will be on the NFC and AFC title games. That doesn’t mean you can’t wet your whistle before the games kick-off by attacking the college basketball odds! The debut of my Sunday Parlay Legs piece ended up 1-2 last week. The day started off on the right foot after Maryland gave Purdue the battle I expected as 10+ point underdogs before falling by a 58-55 final count. Unfortunately, the over in the Memphis/Cincinnati game never stood a chance after the offenses went cold in the second half. Colorado also proved to be a loser after failing to put any distance between itself and Washington State before winning the game at the buzzer. Here’s to getting in the black at PointsBet Sportsbook with three investments you can confidently throw into parlay cards to close out the week!

Providence Friars vs. Villanova Wildcats
Date and Time: Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 12 PM EST
Location: Wells Fargo Arena, Philadelphia, PA
TV Coverage: FS1
Even after winning the first regular season title in program history, the Providence Friars continued having all sorts of issues with Villanova. The Wildcats swept the season rivalry to move to 8-2 SU in the last 10 overall meetings. Ed Cooley’s kids currently hold down the No. 3 seed in the current Big East standings and know this game is a must win if it’s to keep pace with what’s been a red hot Xavier Musketeers outfit heading into the team’s throw down in the Cintas Center on Hump Day night.
This tilt will take place in the Wells Fargo Arena which is a good thing for the Friars considering the Finneran Pavilion has been nothing but a house of horrors for them. I expect the Friars to be laying over a possession and expect a locked in effort that allows the team to get a leg up on sweeping the series themselves. Providence will attack the paint ad nauseum with Bryce Hopkins and Ed Croswell likely to have their way pushing around Nova’s 195th ranked interior defense. The opportunity will be there for put-backs as well with the Friars rating out as the sixth best offensive rebounding team in the country. Owning the paint and glass should have the Friars in a good position to finally tame the Wildcats and win by margin in the process.

Michigan State Spartans vs. Purdue Boilermakers
Date and Time: Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 12:15 PM EST
Location: Mackey Arena, West Lafayette, IN
TV Coverage: CBS
These teams met on MLK Day in East Lansing where Zach Edey and the Boilermakers pulled out the 64-63 win due to the current frontrunner to win the Wooden Award’s late-game heroics. I took the points with Sparty in that game and came away feeling fortunate to cash the ticket in. While it was undoubtedly a game of runs, it took 30 points from Tyson Walker to prevent the Boilers from running away and hiding. MSU won the rebounding battle 30-29 but turned it over 11 times and only converted six of 19 long range shots. Most disconcerting was Purdue outshooting Michigan State from the free throw line 18-10.
Many will be quick to take the near double-digit impost with the visitors in the rematch considering the first go-round was decided by a single point, but I won’t be of the many. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Purdue has rattled off seven straight wins (4-2-1 ATS) and returns home atop the B1G standings with a comfy 3-game lead over Rutgers. I don’t foresee Michigan State hanging on the glass in the rematch. The first meeting was an anomaly with Purdue by far the better rebounding team. MSU had no answer for Edey who went for a career-high 32 points and 17 rebounds. I expect more of the same in the rematch, but this time Purdue won’t allow the Spartans to counter their runs unlike the first meeting. Mackey will be rocking and the Boilers will oblige!

Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. Iowa Hawkeyes
Date and Time: Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 2 PM EST
Location: Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Iowa City, IA
TV Coverage: Big Ten Network
I faded Rutgers earlier this week at home against Penn State and paid for it dearly. They blew the doors off the Nittany Lions as 5-point favorites and will be out to even their road record up at 3-3 in this grudge match with Iowa who went into the RAC and handed the Scarlet Knights a surprising 76-65 loss as 5.5-point underdogs back on January 8. That defeat is likely still fresh in the memory bank considering Rutgers conceded a season-high in points and 3-pointers allowed (12).
Iowa turned the ball over 15 times and surprisingly won the battle of the boards 36-35 even though Rutgers rates out as the decidedly better rebounding team. While the Hawkeyes have won and covered as favorites against Indiana (91-89), Michigan (93-84), and Maryland (81-67) in its last three home games, I think they’ll be up against it in the rematch. Look for Cam Spencer and co. to take better care of the basketball this time around, and for the defense to not allow Iowa to play its game with the first match playing to nearly 70 possessions. Keep it in the upper 50s to low 60s, and Iowa won’t have a prayer of sweeping the rivalry. Lay the short number and look for Rutgers to even the series by dishing out the same medicine Iowa forced them to take a few weeks back.
