February 13, 2023Faster Streams Factor into Super Bowl Betting Future
February 14, 2023It is another great field this week for The Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles with all of the Top 30 in the current FedExCup standings in the field. Not only will all of the world’s best players be in the field, but Tiger Woods will also tee it up for the first time since last July. Jon Rahm once again is listed as the betting favorite in golf odds at BetRivers with Rory McIlroy right behind. Last week’s winner, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who doesn’t seem to get the credit he deserves, is the third choice in the betting odds. The Genesis Invitational is one of those PGA Tour events that has an enhanced prize purse of $20 million dollars, so all of the top players want to be teeing it up this week. Let’s look at The Genesis Invitational picks.
Venue: Riviera Country Club is a par 71 that measures 7,322 yards. It is considered one of the top courses in the world with a design that truly tests a player’s skill.
Last Year: Joaquin Neimann won the event a year ago, becoming the first player in the event’s history to go wire-to-wire. He also set the tournament record for the lowest 36 and 54-hole scores. Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young finished in a tie for second, two shots back. Adam Scott finished in fourth, while Viktor Hovland finished in fifth.

Rahm, Jon +600
As I said last week, things have returned to normal, as the betting favorite has not won the past three weeks. Normally in golf betting the favorite is overvalued and not worth betting, but Rahm made people think about that fact for a while earlier this season with a couple of wins. I haven’t taken a golf betting favorite this year and I am sure not taking Rahm at odds this low in this field.
Value Picks
Thomas, Justin +1600
I am coming right back and taking Justin Thomas this week. If not for a bad opening round last week he would have been right there at the end. He posted a 67-65 over the weekend and Thomas is one of those players who can be streaky. He has played well in this event in the past with three top-10 finishes including a second in 2019. I will take Thomas at double-digit odds.
Morikawa, Collin +2200
I am coming back again with Morikawa this week. He has played Riviera well in the past and perhaps the missed cut last week will have him extra motivated this week. Riviera is a course that demands accurate approaches and Morikawa ranks highly in Approach stats on the PGA Tour. Keep in mind he finished in a tie for second in this event a year ago. I think he has some value at this number.
Burns, Sam +3300
You definitely have to put Burns into the contender category, as he knows how to win. He came alive over the weekend at the WM Phoenix Open with a 64-68 and remember that he has four PGA Tour wins already in his young career. It was just two years ago before Burns was a winner on the PGA Tour that he held a two shot lead on Sunday in this event. I expect him to do well again this year and contend for the win.
Bradley, Keegan +6600
Don’t sleep on Keegan Bradley this week at big odds. He comes in playing well and he has played well on courses that have Poa Annua greens. He is another player who does well on courses where accuracy is demanded. I’ll take a flyer on him at big odds.
Wyndham Clark +10000
I will throw one big bomb in there and go with Clark at odds of 100-1. He is playing well of late and he is another of those players who does well on courses that demand good approach shots. He finished in the top 20 twice in this event and he could be a player who contends at big odds this week.
