After suffering the first loss of his professional career, Gilberto Ramirez is looking to bounce back against a familiar foe in Gabriel Rosado. Ramirez and Rosado have plenty of history as former sparring partners, but Ramirez is a heavy favorite in this fight per the boxing betting odds. Rosado will look to shock the world with an upset win, but the oddsmakers find that prospect very unlikely.
Gilberto Ramirez will return to the ring on Saturday, March 18, 2023, when he takes on his former sparring partner Gabriel Rosado. This fight will take place at the Walter Pyramid on the campus of Long Beach State University in California. It’s part of the business, but Gilberto Ramirez is already looking to set up another major fight after this tilt. Ramirez is 44-1 with 30 knockouts in his career, and he is looking for a rematch with Dmitry Bivol after suffering a loss to him last November. Meanwhile, Gabriel Rosado (26-16-1-1 with 15 knockouts) is simply looking for a win after losing three straight fights, and he has just five wins in his last 18 fights.

For his part, Gabriel Rosado is doing a good job of talking up this fight. Even though he is a heavy underdog by the boxing betting line, he is saying the right things by claiming that a move to 175 pounds will be good for him, and he is training with the legendary Freddie Roach.
In an interview with The DAZN Boxing Show, Rosado hyped up the move: “Freddie’s excited because I’m giving him that same drive, that same hunger that I did. I told Freddie, man, whatever you want me to do, I’m going to rock out, because it’s one of those fights that means something.”
Rosado is going to need to do SOMETHING different if he is going to pull off an enormous upset. He has only won five fights over the last decade and change, and he has lost to every top-tier opponent that he has faced.
Gilberto Ramirez has been fantastic throughout his career. He is only 31, but this will be his 46th professional fight. Ramirez was 33-0 before he got his first major title shot, and he scored a unanimous decision victory over Arthur Abraham almost seven years ago to win the WBO super middleweight title. We saw him successfully defend that title five times before moving to light heavyweight. He had no problem in his first four title defenses, but his second bout with Jesse Hart proved to be tricky. Ramirez won a narrow unanimous decision (115-112, 115-112, 114-114) in his first fight with Hart, and he had to settle for a majority decision in the rematch.
The move up to light heavyweight proved fruitful as he knocked out his first five foes and won a minor title in the process. However, Dmitry Bivol proved to be too tough when the WBA light heavyweight belt was on the line in Abu Dhabi. More time at light heavyweight will certainly help Ramirez.
The tale of the tape is essentially no contest between these two fighters. Ramirez is 6’2 ½ with a 75-inch reach, while Rosado is 5’11 ½ with a 71.5-inch reach. The favorite has a lot more stamina as the younger fighter, and he will likely be able to finish the fight within the distance if he wants to make a statement. Rosado is tough to knock out with only four knockout losses in his career.

It’s almost impossible to imagine a scenario in which Gabriel Rosado wins this fight. Although these two boxers have a lot of familiarity with one another, it’s clear that this is just a tune-up for Gilberto Ramirez. Rosado has never taken out a true contender in his professional career, and he never would have been able to headline this fight if not for his prior relationship with Ramirez.
