The lead up to the 2023 NFL Draft is more exciting than the draft itself. With an abundance of NFL betting props at BetRivers sportsbook you can wager on the first player picked, the last player selected, otherwise known as ‘Mr. Irrelevant’, and just about anything in between. We introduced odds on players and their draft position in recent articles and those are always popular bets. Wagers on position groups are also a draft fan favorite and one area we’ll look at more closely.
Skill positions are always in need with teams looking for the franchise quarterback or game-breaking receiver. But the quarterback doesn’t become the franchise unless he has ample time to do his job. It’s not surprising that the best seasons QBs have usually include a minimum amount of harassment. The guys up front on the offensive and defensive lines don’t get the credit they deserve and they certainly don’t get recognition from the media, but the players in the locker room know what’s going on. Enough of the ranting, let’s move on to the good stuff.
2023 NFL Draft
The first round of the draft is set to take place on Thursday, April 27 at 8 p.m. ET. Rounds two and three are set for Friday, April 28 at 7 p.m. ET with rounds four through seven on Saturday, April 29 starting at Noon ET. The entire draft will be televised on ABC, ESPN and NFL Network.
2023 NFL Draft Props
It’s pretty much a given that a quarterback will be selected first overall with Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud having the shortest odds to have their name called first. And both of them are locks to be taken in the first round and probably with the first two picks. What happens after they get taken? Are there three more QBs worthy of being selected in the first round? There’s a prop for that with the over/under at 4.5. There are NFL betting props for other positions and the number of players selected among the first 32, so let’s take a look at the NFL odds and see if we can make a few extra bucks.

With a reference to an old Nike commercial that featured baseball players Mark McGwire, Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux, I’ll start this section with the quarterbacks since metaphorically speaking they are the guys who hit the long ball. And chicks dig the long ball. Doing your due diligence is required when wagering on these over/under props and betting the OVER at plus odds on this one requires someone sneaking into the first round that isn’t on the radar. The two guys mentioned above are locks as is Anthony Richardson. Most expect Will Levis to also sneak into the opening round. The juice suggests that’s it, but we never know what’s going to happen. Most mock drafts have the four going among the first 32, but I’ve never seen one of the so-called experts get the draft right. The guy most likely to cash a winning NFL wager on the OVER is Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker, who recently joined the first round discussion, but in all likelihood this is capped at four.

One thing that hurts when betting the OVER in any of these first round props is that the 2023 NFL Draft will only have 31 picks since the Miami Dolphins forfeited their first rounder following a league investigation. There’s a good chance the Bears at No. 9 look for help on the O line. They showed their hand trading the No. 1 overall pick and clearly are set to build the offense around Justin Fields. They acquired a top receiver in D.J. Moore leaving the line as next in order. There are several first round candidates with Northwestern’s Peter Skoronski ranked No. 1 at the position by numerous outlets. Paris Johnson and Broderick Jones are also likely first-rounders and we fall into a gray area after that. One thing that gives me promise for hitting the OVER and cashing a winning ticket at BetRivers sportsbook is that four teams picking in the top 10 also have another first round pick. I can easily see Houston, Seattle, Detroit or Philadelphia going for an offensive lineman with that second pick because you can never have enough quality on the OL.
