May 17, 2023NHL Playoff Betting – Friday, May 19 Picks
May 18, 2023We cashed our lone MLB Best Bet at BetRivers Sportsbook last Thursday when the Minnesota Twins came back late to take a victory away from Yu Darvish and win the series against the San Diego Padres. The other two plays were cancelled due to pitching changes for the Cincinnati Reds and Oakland A’s respectively. We only got six games on the MLB betting docket today, so let’s put a few games under the microscope and see if we can’t come up with some successful same game MLB parlays for Thursday’s limited slate – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

Los Angeles Angels vs. Baltimore Orioles
The O’s continue to be one of the best teams in the league when playing in front of the hometown faithful. In splitting the first two games of this series with the Halos, Baltimore entered Wednesday’s tilt 14-7 and $333 in the black for MLB bettors as a host. I expect them to add to that tally in the series finale on Thursday when Cedric Mullins and co. stare back at Tyler Anderson who’s been nothing short of wretched since taking the Halos for a laughable contract in the offseason. His 5.80 FIP is actually worse than his 5.26 ERA, and he’s allowed 10.0 hits per nine while issuing a near career-worst 4.5 walks per nine innings.
Baltimore stands an impressive 12-5 versus LHP ($740) in averaging 5.5 runs per game. Only the Rangers, Cubs, Rays, and Braves hit for a higher OPS than the O’s who clock in at .806. Anderson’s go-to pitches – the 4-seamer and changeup – have each been raked by the Orioles per Baseball Savant. This isn’t a good spot for the left-hander whatsoever! As such, we’ll look to fade Anderson hitting the under of his pitching outs prop and pair that with Baltimore on the moneyline and over their team total. Though Tyler Wells has been a bit more hittable in day games, he’s been nothing short of stellar at home where he’s the owner of a 2.10 ERA, 0.70 WHIP, and .161 BAA. That paired with the offense’s advantage leads me to believe they put this one away.

New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays
This series between the Yankees and Blue Jays has been filled with all kinds of controversy mostly stemming from New York looking guilty of cheating. First, there were Aaron Judge’s wandering eyes before smacking a solo shot in the series opener, and then Domingo German was ejected for using a foreign substance on Tuesday night. Each instance still resulted in the Bronx Bombers slugging their way to a pair of wins. I expect that to occur once again in the series finale with the offense set to square off against Jose Berrios and his yawnstipating arsenal. I also expect Toronto to hang a crooked number on the board as tough a time Nestor Cortes Jr. has had through his first eight starts.
Berrios enters start No. 9 off nearly throwing successive quality starts coming one out short of pulling off the feat against the Atlanta Braves. However, the right-hander is averaging less than a strikeout per nine innings while serving up 9.4 hits and being taken yard at least once per outing. He ran up against New York three times as a Blue Jay last season and went 1-2 with a 5.64 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and .280 BAA. The Yankees launched three of his offerings into the cheap seats and possess a number of potent bats that rip the 4-seamer and sinker – Berrios’s go-to pitches – per Baseball Savant. This start could go sideways real quick!
Same goes for Cortes Jr. who has been raked for 18 hits (4 HR) and 15 ER in his last three turns that amounted to a grand total of 14.0 IP against the Rangers, A’s, and Rays. I’ll give you one guess to pinpoint the lone start of the three that he actually excelled! Toronto averages half a run more per game against LHP (5.1) than RHP (4.6), and it’s been nothing but a huge struggle for Cortes away from Yankee Stadium where he’s 1-2 with an unsightly 7.20 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. Something has been off with the lefty all season and I think another rude awakening waits Thursday night. It wouldn’t shock me if both bullpens get involved in this one extremely early!
