May 25, 2023MLB Same Game Parlays – Sunday, May 28
May 26, 2023Every year during the NBA playoffs when a team loses the first three games of a seven-game series the stat will inevitably be mentioned. No team has ever successfully completed the comeback and rarely has such a series even gone the distance. With their second straight win over the Miami Heat on Thursday, the Boston Celtics moved a step closer to making history with another leap on Saturday in Game 6. It’s been a sudden change of direction for Boston, who had their stars disappear in crunch time while making uncharacteristic mistakes in dropping the first two games of the Eastern Conference Final at home. They looked disinterested in their Game 3 blowout loss, their first skid of that many games since early March. The Celtics lost all three games outright falling to 2-5 in their last seven as a NBA pick against the spread. Catching points for the first time this season, the Celtics posted an inspired 116-99 win in Game 4 giving them a much-needed jolt of confidence. Boston Celtics at Miami Heat
The Celtics won three times on Miami’s home floor last year to win the Eastern Conference championship. They’ll need to win twice in this series if they want to repeat. And in the last two seasons Boston has won four times on the road when facing elimination. The common thread with Boston’s success in South Beach is defense. In each of their last four wins as the road team in this matchup the Celtics have been a NBA odds pick against the UNDER playing below the closing total in all four contests.
Boston put on a clinic in Game 4 using scoring bursts in each half to silence Miami runs. The most impressive run came in the fourth quarter, which was a bugaboo for the Celtics early in the series. The Heat made a surge closing the gap in the opening minutes of the frame. Following a timeout Jayson Tatum scored his first bucket in the final stanza in the series igniting a 12-0 spurt that basically put the game away. The Celtics cruised winning outright 116-99 as a 1-point dog on the NBA betting line.
Following their Game 4 win the Celtics talked about coming back to Miami for another game; bold words for a team that trailed the series 3-1 at that point. The pressure is squarely on the Celtics with no margin for error, but the momentum has definitely shifted following Boston’s Game 5 win.
The Celtics need more from Jaylen Brown to complete the improbable comeback and it feels like he’s ready to deliver. After scoring more than 20 points in 11 of the first 14 playoff games, Brown has been contained by Miami averaging just 15 points on 35.7 percent shooting over the past three games. Brown can go off at any moment and with his point total down to 22 he looks like a good bet to hit the OVER on a same-game parlay.
Tatum solved his issues in Game 4 going 14 of 22 from the field for 33 points. He scored more points (34) in Game 2 but was a non-factor in the fourth quarter. He was a huge reason why Boston was able to pull away in Game 4 and did his part again on Thursday night. Boston needs the Tatum that put up MVP-type numbers during the regular season and dropped 51 on Philadelphia in the clincher in that series.
The Heat have done things the hard way all season so why would this series be any different? And making things more difficult is that they could be without Gabe Vincent. An ankle injury sustained late in Game 4 forced the former UCSB Gaucho to miss the last contest. Vincent is averaging 17.5 points in the series while shooting 50 percent from behind the arc.
The NBA’s lowest scoring team during the regular season will struggle to score without GV putting more pressure on Jimmy Butler. Buckets has risen to the occasion all postseason and this game likely won’t be different. But taking away another weapon leaves the UNDER as top NBA odds pick at BetRivers sportsbook.
