The Memorial Matchup Picks

The top golfers in the world head to Jack’s Place for The Memorial Tournament. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is a slight favorite against a top field of golfers. Scheffler played last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge and played well, but didn’t win. Scheffler is the top golf betting favorite at BetRivers. The list of contenders is large, as you can make a case for a number of players including Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, etc.I went 3-1-1 last week with the matchups at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Let’s look at Memorial matchup picks.

Defending Champion: Billy Horschel

Tournament Notes: There is no question that length of the tee will help this week, as Muirfield Village is 7,571 yards. What is sometimes forgotten is that accuracy also matters, as the rough is long and the greens are small. Last year’s scoring average was over par, but this year the scoring should be better, as the weather is expected to be excellent.

Hatton, Tyrrell -129 vs. Fowler, Rickie

Hatton has only played Muirfield once, and that was in 2019 when he tied for 33^rd. He is definitely a better player now and he comes into this event in solid form with two top 20 finishes and two top five finishes. I know that Fowler is playing better and has played well in this event in the past, but I still think Hatton is the better player, I took him in the picks article and I’ll take him in this matchup against Fowler.

Thomas, Justin -132 vs. Spieth, Jordan

I am not sure why Spieth is playing right now. It looks to me that his left wrist is still causing him trouble and the only real way to fully heal it would be to rest. He doesn’t want to do that and I think he is a go-against player until he does. I’ll take Thomas in this matchup.

Fitzpatrick, Matthew -110 vs. Spieth, Jordan

I am coming right back and going against Spieth again in this matchup. Fitzpatrick is capable of shooting low numbers and contending this week and we get him at a low price in this matchup against Spieth. I’ll take Fitzpatrick in this matchup.

Clark, Wyndham -142 vs. Grillo, Emiliano

This is one of my go-to things in matchups, as I go against the player who won the previous week. I can’t see anything other than a huge letdown for Grillo, so I don’t know that it would matter who he was going against. In this case we take Clark at the short price against Grillo.

Bradley, Keegan -129 vs. Woodland, Gary

Bradley is capable of doing well in this event, while Woodland really hasn’t played well in years. It would not surprise me to see Bradley contend this week, while Woodland may do well to make the cut. I’ll lay the small price in golf betting odds and take Bradley in this matchup.
