MLB Same Game Parlay Picks, Odds & Predictions – Sunday, June 11
June 9, 2023MLB Same Game Parlay Picks, Odds & Predictions – Tuesday, June 13
June 12, 2023If you’re not the favorite then you are considered a longshot. Some just happen to be longer than others. The 2023 Belmont Stakes has some of horse racing’s top thoroughbreds in the field with two horses standing out as the favorites. Forte and Angel of Empire are getting most of the attention ahead of the final leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown, which takes place on Saturday from Belmont Park. The favorites at BetRivers sportsbook are situated there for a reason, but as we’ve seen recently handicapping the ponies isn’t an exact science. And with Forte skipping the Kentucky Derby and not running in 10 weeks, there are some flaws.
Plus, value can be found when looking further down the odds board, and we don’t have to look far with only nine horses currently in the field. The top of the Belmont Stakes odds board has four horses with shorter than 6/1 odds. The other five have all posted impressive horse racing results and are all greater than 10/1. Are there are some sleepers in the group with a chance of pulling off an upset? We’ll visit a few down below.
The 2023 Belmont Stakes takes place on Saturday, June 10 from Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. Post time is 7:02 p.m. ET with the race airing live on NBC. You can place bets on horse racing and the Belmont Stakes at BetRivers.

Longshots
Based on his history Forte emerged as the betting favorite. He’s won five of his six starts and was the top horse racing pick at the Derby. Unfortunately he had to withdraw and he hasn’t raced since winning the G1 Florida Derby in April. He might be the most talented in the field, but that doesn’t guarantee success, especially when a number of questions have to be answered. Is he fully healthy after his Derby scratch? And how will he handle the distance he’s never run before coming off a 10-week absence?
That certainly opens the door for others to sneak in as a longshot pick. At +535, National Treasure is among the four favorites and is coming off a win at the Preakness Stakes. Some will say the field at Pimlico wasn’t as deep as what we’ll see on Saturday, and they’re probably right. Only one horse made the trip from Louisville to Baltimore and that was Derby winner Mage.
Of the five horses with the longest horse racing odds I’m going to scratch Il Miracolo off the list of potential upsetters. He never sniffed Forte in two races they competed in together finishing an estimated 32 lengths combined behind the favorite. Simply put it would take a miracle for him to win.
So, what 3-year-old has a better chance? There are actually a few I’ve got an eye on with Arcangelo standing out. The colt has plenty of upside according to his handlers with improved speed numbers in every start. His only graded race was at the Peter Pan in May, which he won with an impressive close. The distance shouldn’t be a factor and he can handle a nice pace.
Red Route One could benefit from the horse race track at Belmont being a little longer. He just couldn’t close the gap on the front three at Pimlico but he held his own down the stretch settling for fourth. Some experts feel he can be even better at greater distance.
Belmont Stakes Longshot Picks
There really is not standout entered and though the odds suggest otherwise, I feel the race is wide open. With the favorite Forte having to prove himself all over again I do like the idea of a longshot sneaking in and if I had to pick one National Treasure would be it. At a more favorable price, though, Arcangelo could produce a hefty payday.
