Travelers Championship Picks

It is the week following a major and that usually means a watered-down field, but that is not the case this week, as the Travelers Championship is one of the designated events that has a prize purse of $20 million dollars. That means most of the top players are in the field this week, including World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler who is the favorite at BetRivers. He is joined by seven other players ranked in the top 10 in the latest World Golf Rankings. In total, 14 of the world’s top 20 ranked golfers will be in the field. Scheffler is listed with odds of +700, while Jon Rahm is the second choice at odds of +800 and Rory McIlroy is third in the golf betting odds at +900. Let’s look at Travelers Championship picks.

Venue: TPC River Highlands is a par 70 that measures 6,852 yards. It is one of the shortest layouts on the PGA Tour.

Last Year: Xander Schauffele won by two shots over J.T. Poston and Sahith Theegala. Amateur Michael Thorbjornsen finished in fourth, while Chesson Hadley finished fifth.

Favorite

Scheffler, Scottie +700

It should go without saying that betting favorites in golf to win is a losing proposition. Scheffler was the favorite last week and didn’t get the win. He is in that role again this week and while I like how Scheffler plays, I am not going to bet him as the favorite.

Value Picks

Morikawa, Collin +2500

Did you know that Morikawa has not won on the PGA Tour since the 2021 Open Championship? It is hard to believe that a player this talented hasn’t won in almost two years. He has some good overall stats and in his last four tournaments he has regained some putting confidence. Putting will be huge this week and I think Morikawa has a decent shot to win.

Finau, Tony +2500

Finau always seems to be on leaderboards and he has done well on Bentgrass and Bentgrass/Poa Annua greens, as three of his six PGA Tour wins came on those surfaces. I think he will be comfortable on the greens this week and will be in the mix on Sunday.

Fleetwood, Tommy +3300

Fleetwood comes in playing really well and maybe this is the week where he gets his first PGA Tour win. He has played well in the Northeast in the past and in the RBC Canadian Open he ranked first in putting. This is a good course for Fleetwood and I think he can contend.

Homa, Max +3500

I am going to throw in Homa this week simply because of his putting. Despite not playing quite as well lately, Homa is still ranked in the Top 10 in the latest World Golf rankings and he ranks in the Top 10 on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained Putting.

Tom Kim +5000

Kim got going last week at the U.S. Open and he may be able to carry over that success to this week. Kim already has two PGA Tour wins in his very young career and he plays well on courses in his first try. He has some excellent stats on the PGA Tour, including ranking 4^th in Strokes Gained on Approach. I’ll take Kim at these big odds.

McCarthy, Denny +6600

One of the best putters on the PGA Tour is McCarthy and he is now showing that he can do more than just putt. It would not surprise me at all to see him in contention this week and we get a big price.

C.T. Pan +12500

I’ll throw on bomb in here and go with Pan. He has been playing really well of late, including in the Canadian Open where he led after 54 holes. He is a player who does well on short courses and I think he has a chance to contend this week.
