July 4, 2023Last Wednesday’s MLB Same Game Parlays ended up 1-2 over at PointsBet Sportsbook with Mother Nature stealing what would’ve been a sure-fire ticket cash with the Marlins who took care of business in Boston but saw the game halted due to rain. Because of it, Braxton Garrett wasn’t allowed to continue after only needing 66 pitches to get through the fifth with only 1 ER and three hits allowed. It was a major swing and a miss with the Mariners who nearly got shutout and lost the series to the Nats, but Blake Snell and the Padres made up for it by logging the dominant 7-1 win over Mitch Keller and the Pirates. Here’s to reeling in some green on my pop’s 73rd birthday – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

Cincinnati Reds vs. Washington Nationals
I was dumbfounded Graham Ashcraft and the Reds were installed moderate-sized home dogs to Seth Lugo and the Padres in the righty’s return to the bump at the tail end of last week. His pitching outs prop clocked in at a laughable 15.5 with heavier juice on the under. He went out and spun 6.2 innings of 1 ER ball and 7 K with only a solo home run allowed to Trent Grisham. His slider was off the charts good per Pitcher List collecting 13 of 44 whiffs and a rock-solid 55 called/swinging strike percentage. While not likely to register as many strikeouts versus a Washington offense that only strikes out at a 20.6 percent rate against RHP (No. 1), he’ll likely bank back-to-back quality starts should the slider once again be on point considering that pitch type has given Lane Thomas and co. major issues per Baseball Savant. While Josiah Gray’s stat-line looks nice and shiny on paper with the righty 6-6 and the owner of a 3.30 ERA, his 4.57 FIP and 4.1 BB/9 lets it be known the 25-year old can still be blown up at a moment’s notice. I fully expect Spencer Steer and his mates to do just that with Cincy averaging 5.6 RPG over the last week.

Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox
It’s been a remarkable first half of the baseball betting season for Texas righty Jon Gray who enters his sixteenth start 6-4 with a 3.21 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. However, the negative regression monster paid him a visit on two occasions in the month of June and I don’t expect it to jump ship just yet with a tough matchup against a Boston lineup that rips RHP on the horizon. The Red Sox’ bats awakened north of the border over the weekend tagging Blue Jays pitching for a minimum of five runs to sweep the series. His 4-seamer, slider, and changeup arsenal could run into major issues here with the BoSox owners of some impressive run values per Baseball Savant against all three pitch types. Brayan Bello has completely changed my mind. I thought May was an anomaly, but the second-year hurler did even better in June to turn me into a believer. It all looks to be legit with his 3.72 FIP in-line with his 3.08 ERA! If he could curb the walks just a bit more (2.7/9), I’d be in on just about every one of his starts. Texas has done a solid job taking walks overall (No. 12), but falls down to No. 18 on the road. After just seeing his two-game win streak go up in smoke even after tossing seven innings of 1 ER ball at the Marlins, I expect the youngster to get right back in the win column due to the added run support.

Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers
I’m not exactly sure how he’s doing it, but Adrian Houser has once again proved to be a steadying force within the Brew Crew’s starting rotation. The righty just moved to 3-2 with a 3.88 ERA by tossing six innings of 2 ER ball at the Mets to log his first win since June 4. His WHIP clocks in at 1.511 with him allowing 10.9 hits and 2.7 walks per nine innings. I always think the regression monster is going to pay him a nasty visit, but it never does. It likely won’t in this spot either with the Cubs’ bats he’s opposed only batting a collective .256 against him with zero home runs allowed and only three of the 11 hits allowed being of the extra base variety. Justin Steele has looked fantastic in his three starts since coming off the IL holding the Orioles, Cardinals, and Guardians to a measly 13 hits (1 HR) and 3 ER with an 18:3 K/BB ratio over 17.1 combined innings. He owns a 2.23 ERA and .205 BAA through nine career starts against Milwaukee with the current lineup only batting .254 against him with 27 strikeouts and only eight walks taken. Look for the NL ERA leader to shine once again and likely log another quality start upping his already impressive 67 percent output.
