Open Championship Matchup Picks
July 19, 2023Philadelphia Eagles Season Win Total Odds, Pick & Prediction
July 19, 2023The Open Championship begins on Thursday and not only can we bet on a player to win the tournament and bet the matchups; we can also bet some props. We have done well in the past betting the props in majors and we’ll look to have some good success again this week. We have a number of props to choose from at BetRivers. There are the normal props involving a hole-in-one, whether the tournament will go to a playoff, nationality of the winner, etc. We’ll look at some of these props and try and pick some winners. Let’s look at Open Championship props.
Winner to Birdie the 72nd Hole
Yes +125
No -167
Winner to Par the 72nd Hole
Yes -110
No -120
The 18th hole is going to be very interesting in the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. It is a par 5 but it is not an easy hole. Many people are predicting we will see as many double bogeys as we see eagles. The interesting part of these two props is that we can get plus money on a birdie on the last hole. I usually like to bet on par for the finishing hole, but I don’t see a ton of value in that prop. I think there is more value on the Yes on the birdie at +125.
Winner to play in Final Group in Round 4
Yes -275
No +200
I would like to play the No on this prop but I need a lot more value than the 2-1 price. Most of the time the winner does come from the final group, but I don’t want to lay nearly 3-1. I’ll pass on this one.
Top Asian Player
Tom Kim +460
Hideki Matsuyama +490
Sungjae Im +550
Si Woo Kim +600
Byeong Hun An +600
K.H. Lee +1600
Keita Nakajima +1900
Takumi Kanaya +2100
Rikuya Hoshino +2600
Kazuki Higa +2600
Taiga Semikawa +2900
Jazz Janewattananond +3600
Taichi Kho +3800
Shubhankar Sharma +4000
Hiroshi Iwata +4800
Kyung Nam Kang +5500
Bio Kim +6500
Kensei Hirata +7000
Kazuki Yasumori +7000
My favorite prop may very well be this one with Tom Kim listed at odds of nearly 5-1. Did you see the list of players he has to beat? There are very few players who can even come remotely close to Kim in this tournament. Kim is definitely in better form than any of the players on this list. Matsuyama hasn’t played well lately and as much as I like the game of Im, he hasn’t been playing well. Si Woo Kim doesn’t have the game to play well on this course. I think An and Lee would be the only two minor threats but I think Tom Kim is the clear choice to win this prop and we get nearly 5-1 odds on him.
Hole-in-One in the Tournament
Yes -188
No +158
I am a little bit surprised that the price on the Yes on the hole-in-one is this high. I know that we see a hole-in-one quite a bit in major championships, but usually the price isn’t this high. I went in and looked at all of the par 3’s to see just how likely we are to see a hole-in-one at Royal Liverpool. The first par 3 is the 6th hole and it measures 201 yards. I just don’t see anyone getting lucky and holing out a shot from 201 yards on the 6th hole. The 9th hole is even longer at 218 yards so I don’t see a hole-in-one on this par 3. The 13th hole is another par 3 and it measures 194 yards. It is another hole where I don’t think we see an ace. Whether we see a hole-in-one comes down to the brand-new 17th hole which is 136 yards.
There is no question that the shorter hole means a hole-in-one is possible, but this is not an easy par 3, as finding the right distance with the wind will not be easy. I think taking the no on a hole-in-one is the right way to go and we get +158. If there is going to be a hole-in-one then it should be on No. 17 and you can get +104 on the Yes on a hole-in-one on that hole. You could just play both props and guarantee to be a winner unless someone does the unlikely and gets an ace on one of the long par 3’s.
