July 25, 20232023 PAC 12 Championship Odds and Picks
July 26, 2023Tony Finau leads the field for this week’s 3M Open in Minnesota. Finau is listed as the betting favorite at BetRivers at odds of +1200. Cameron Young who finished tied for 8th last week at the Open Championship, is in the field, as are Emiliano Grillo and Sungjae Im who tied for 2nd in this tournament a year ago. Justin Thomas is also a surprise entrant for this event, which is the next to last one in the PGA Tour regular season, so Thomas needs to pick up points if he expects to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs. Only the top 70 qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs and many of those on the bubble are in the field this week including K.H. Lee who is No. 70, Sam Ryder who is No. 69, Ben Griffin who is No. 68, David Lingmerth at No. 71, Davis Thompson at No. 72, Lee Hodges at No. 74, Thomas at No. 75, Justin Suh at No. 76 and Cam Davis at No. 77. Let’s look at 3M Open picks.
Venue: TPC Twin Cities is a par 71 that measures 7,431 yards. One of the signature holes is No. 17 that is named “Tom’s Thumb” after Tom Lehman who consulted on the course layout.
Last Year: Tony Finau benefited from a Scott Piercy collapse last year, as Finau trailed by 5 shots with 11 holes left. Piercy went 7 over in his final 11 holes and Finau made four birdies in a six-hole stretch on the back nine. Emiliano Grillo and Sungjae Im tied for second, while Piercy finished fourth.

Finau, Tony +1200
It was back to normal last week with another golf betting favorite biting the dust at the Open Championship. There were not many people who had Brian Harman winning, so almost all of the picks to win last week were losers. Finau is the betting favorite this week and while he is the defending champion, there is not much to suggest that Finau is suddenly going to find his “A” game and win this week. I’ll pass.
Value Picks
Young, Cameron +1600
Young looked good last week at the Open Championship until the final round and he should do well at TPC Twin Cities. He also finished 6th at the John Deere Classic a few weeks ago. He has yet to win on the PGA Tour, yet he is up to No. 15 in the latest World Golf Rankings. I’ll take shot on Young getting his first win this week.
Grillo, Emiliano +2200
Grillo is coming off a tie for 6th last week so we know he is in good form. He has had a good season, highlighted by his win at the Charles Schwab Challenge in May. He has been really good at the 3M Open with a tie for 2nd and a tie for 3rd. He might just add the win to that resume this week.
Hadwin, Adam +4500
Hadwin could join three other Canadians to win this season if he can win this week. He nearly won at the Rocket Mortgage Classic but lost in a playoff. He has played well in this event in the past with a 4th in 2019 and a 6th in 2021. He is well rested for this event and I think he can contend for the win.
Glover, Lucas +5000
Glover is in fine form, so if he can put last week’s failure in Kentucky behind him, he can contend this week. It is all about putting for Glover, as if he gets it going like he did in Detroit he can be in contention. I’ll take a flyer on him at big odds.
Poston, J.T. +5000
Poston is playing really well and he has done well in the past in the 3M Open. He likes playing in the Midwest and his current form is solid. The odds at 50-1 look way too high to me on a player who can win on a course like this one in Minnesota.
Hojgaard, Nicolai +5500
Hojgaard is quietly in good form, as he was 21st at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, 6th at the Scottish Open and 23rd at the Open Championship. Hojgaard is still looking to get his full PGA Tour card for next year and this course definitely suits his game. I’ll take a flyer on him at odds of 55-1.
