MLB Same Game Parlay Picks, Odds & Predictions – Monday, July 31
July 28, 2023NFL Hall of Fame Game Picks – Cleveland Browns vs. New York Jets
July 31, 2023We ended up cashing one of three MLB same game parlays at BetRivers Sportsbook last Tuesday night in what proved to be a precursor of one of our worst weeks of the MLB betting season. Couldn’t catch a break and I made a number of terrible handicaps! Fading Verlander proved to be a terrible call with Pete Alonso going HAM. We did however knock it out of the park with that Corbin Burnes fade after Andrew Abbott outpitched him and led the Reds to their lone win of the series. The night ended with a game we had no business dropping with the Blue Jays + under looking golden through eight then both teams erupted for seven combined runs in the ninth before LA went on to win in extras. Hate going to bed pissed like that! Let’s see if we can’t start fresh and add to the bankroll with some Tuesday night parlay pick winners – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins
We faded Ranger Suarez in his last start at home against Baltimore. Though the lefty would concede seven hits (1 HR) and 4 ER, he struck out six and only walked one en route to only needing 90 pitches to get through six innings. He also got bailed out by his offense that got to a red hot Kyle Bradish for seven hits (1 HR) and 5 ER through his 6.2 innings; to my chagrin. I’m paying up to see if he can do it again in the second game of this extended four-game series in LoanDepot where he was already tagged for eight hits (1 HR) and 3 ER and took the loss in a matchup against Braxton Garrett. Sandy Alcantara has been a tough nut to crack. The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner just trimmed over a run off his ERA in July and enters start No. 22 off throwing his second complete game of the year against Tampa Bay. Philly owns the starting pitching advantage throughout this series. With that, this spot is one the home team must come out on top of if it’s to prevent the Phillies from leapfrogging them in the wild-card chase. I expect him to rise to the occasion and the offense to get to Suarez who regressed terribly in July absorbing three losses in his five made starts.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs
If you’ve been following my takes on the MLB odds this season, you know I’m extremely bullish on the Reds and believe they have what it takes to stick in the NL playoff chase the remainder of the season. That being said, they’re venturing back into Wrigley where they swept a three-game series back in late May and that’s something Chicago won’t soon have forgotten. Keep in mind, David Ross’ squad fell off a cliff in the month of May and Cody Bellinger wasn’t in the lineup for any of those matchups. Justin Steele got embarrassed in the opener of that series after getting rocked for 10 hits and 5 ER through 3.2 innings. Something happened physically in that start and was then reaggravated in his next appearance against Tampa evidenced by getting hooked in the fourth with only 29 pitches thrown. He went on the IL immediately after. Since returning, Chicago’s staff ace has led the team to wins in six of his seven starts with five of the efforts being of quality. Sitting 11-3 and locking down wins in two straight starts, No. 35 will take the bump looking to make a statement! Ben Lively does very little to move the needle for me and won’t be long for this one against a Cubs offense that had been locked in at the plate before mailing Sunday’s finale in at St. Louis after already winning the series.

San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies
Nobody is listed as the Friars starting pitcher for the second game of this series with the Rockies at the time of this writing. It doesn’t matter! We’ll be banking on Fernando Tatis Jr. and co. taking care of business for us at the dish against a bullpen arm that’s taken on three lesser offenses since getting yanked out of the pen. That won’t be the case tonight with the Tigers, Marlins, and Nationals unable to hold a candle to the firepower San Diego will unleash in the thin air of Coors this evening. Peter Lambert’s hot streak will come to a crashing thud this evening with the righty generating no called or swinging strikes and averaging 3.4 BB/9 innings.
No team makes opposing pitchers work more than the Padres whose 11 percent walk rate is tops in the league. Ducks will be on the pond all game long with Colorado’s pen also one of the worst in MLB at issuing free passes (No. 29). This should play out to a multiple-run win for the visitors with Colorado forced to go to its relievers in short order!
