NFL Preseason Week 2 Odds and Picks
August 16, 2023BMW Championship Matchup Picks
August 16, 2023We ended up cashing one of three MLB Same Game Parlays over at PointsBet Sportsbook last Friday with the two losses coming nowhere close. The evening started off on the right foot after Andrew Abbott dominated the Pirates en route to leading the Reds to the 9-2 win at PNC. That carefree walk back to the window to cash the SGP ticket was squashed by what went down on the Southside of Chicago where Corbin Burnes was lit up by what had been a weak hitting White Sox offense. While we cashed the over of the D’backs team total in the night cap, their five runs ultimately got doubled up by the Padres. Here’s to kicking the weekend off with some winning parlay picks – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals
MLB bettors were privy to one of the best pitching performances of the 2023 MLB betting season in the middle of last week when Michael Lorenzen tossed a no-hitter against the Nationals leading Philadelphia to the 7-0 shutout win. The righty had his next start skipped to give his arm some extra rest after logging 101 and 124 total pitches in his first two starts since coming over from Detroit at the trade deadline. I almost always fade a pitcher coming off a historical performance (Check Domingo German), but the extra rest has me comfortable about backing Philly regardless of the Nats clocking in as the second most lucrative team to back on the MLB odds to date. He’ll more than likely give up some hits this time around with Washington firmly aware of how the righty will attack them, but I’ll pay up to see if the damage is enough to prevent the Phillies from continuing to hold the upper hand of this NL East rivalry having taken six of the prior 10 meetings. Joan Adon is currently a bullpen arm forced to start due to injuries within Washington’s starting rotation. Bryce Harper and current bats on the roster have teed off on him to the tune of a .321 average with nine hits (5 XBH) and 7 RBI with a 7:4 K/BB ratio over 28 total at-bats. Don’t overthink this!
MLB SAME GAME PARLAY: PHILLIES MONEYLINE + NATIONALS UNDER TEAM TOTAL
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Texas Rangers
Brandon Woodruff has impressed in his two made starts since returning from the IL earlier this month. His first start saw him toss five innings of 2 ER ball with a stellar 9:0 K/BB ratio in a losing effort against the Pirates. That was followed up with 6.1 innings of four hit and 2 ER ball with 5 K and 1 BB in a showing at the White Sox that earned him win No. 2 of the baseball betting season. Lost however in the counting stats that have left his fantasy backers giddy is that the righty served up three home runs in those outings. On top of that, both Pittsburgh and Chicago possess offenses ranked amongst the bottom third of the league. Up next on the docket will be an unforgiving Rangers offense that ranks No. 2 in the most pertinent of offensive stat categories with the team perched atop the AL West standings. Making Woodruff’s outlook all the more bleak in this start is the fact that Texas has launched the fifth most home runs in the league (167)! I’m not a huge believer in Andrew Heaney evidenced by fading him a number of times to date, but the ‘Gers have won five of his last six starts and Milwaukee rates out as the absolute worst offense in the league when running up against left-handed pitching (3.2 RPG). If ever there was a time to back the southpaw, this is it!
MLB SAME GAME PARLAY: RANGERS MONEYLINE + WOODRUFF UNDER PITCHING OUTS
Miami Marlins vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
After backing the Fish with a series bet to defend their turf against the Astros earlier this week, does it really come as a surprise to find me touting them in the opener of this three-game set against the Dodgers in Tinseltown? If you haven’t been able to tell all season long, I’m very bullish on the Marlins and truly believe they have the right mix of veteran and young talent to spring an upset or two in the postseason should they qualify. The team currently sits on the right side looking into the playoff picture with it holding onto the final wild-card slot. Every win is crucial moving forward with the Cubs, Reds, and D’backs all breathing down their collective neck. They arguably possess the starting pitching advantage in every game of this series starting Friday night with reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara set to square off against Tony Gonsolin. The former has been electric through three August starts limiting the Yankees, Rangers, and Phillies to just 15 hits (3 HR) and 5 ER with a 22:3 K/BB ratio over 23 IP. The latter has served up a long ball in each of his last seven starts and been the beneficiary of some tremendous run support to attain his 8-4 record. I don’t foresee that occurring in this spot with Alcantara locked in and looking to make a statement.
