Illinois Sportsbooks Continue Strong Momentum
August 21, 2023Monday Night – Thursday Night Best Bets
August 21, 2023We only cashed one of three MLB same game parlays at BetRivers Sportsbook last Tuesday night. The Marlins looked primed to take the opener of their three-game set holding a 3-0 lead through three innings of play, but Houston chipped at the deficit the remainder of the game to pull out the 6-5 win. The Falter/Peterson matchup proved to be the high scorer as predicted with both teams managing to go over the respective team total. Unfortunately, we closed the night with a dud after the Orioles got thumped by the Padres 10-3 behind three horrific innings from Jack Flaherty. Let’s see if we can add to the bankroll this time around with some Tuesday night parlay pick winners – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles
The week kicks off with a huge series in Camden Yards Tuesday night when the Toronto Blue Jays square off against the Baltimore Orioles. The series opener offers up an intriguing pitching matchup for MLB bettors with Yusei Kikuchi and Grayson Rodriguez set to square off. The lefty has been scorching hot for the BJs since the middle of July having allowed just 27 hits and 5 ER with a 36:8 K/BB ratio over his last 35 innings. Toronto clocks in 4-2 during that hot streak but only managed to come out victorious in one of his three road starts. The O’s rookie finally looks to have come into his own with his 100+ mph heat finally being spotted well allowing his secondary offerings to do more damage. Since late July, the right-hander has only allowed 17 hits (1 HR) and 8 ER with a K/BB ratio of 26:9 over his last 30.2 innings of work. Baltimore has logged wins in three of his last five starts, but only managed to come out on top once in his last three in front of the hometown faithful. I expect the adrenaline to be flowing for both hurlers initially, but for the Orioles to find a way to take the opener and set the tone for the series.

Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros
It’s back to the starting bump for Jose Urquidy who will be a welcomed arm for Dusty Baker’s rotation as rock-solid the righty has looked coming out of the pen since coming off the IL the beginning of the month. He’s made one start and two relief appearances all the while allowing eight hits (1 HR) and 6 ER with a K/BB ratio of 11:3 since getting back on the hill. Five of those earned runs came in his first appearance back on August 6. Since then, he’s allowed five hits and 1 ER while striking out 10 and not conceding a single free pass through seven total innings. Though Boston looks to be streaking once again coming off a series sweep in the Bronx, I’m just not a believer in what the Red Sox bring to the table this baseball betting season. Chris Sale is still fighting back from the injury that put him on the IL for a few months. His velocity is nowhere near where it should be right now with it topping out at less than 94 MPH in his last showing against Washington. Though the southpaw was only gotten for three hits (1 HR) and 4 ER through his nine total innings, he was throwing at the Tigers and Nats. Houston’s averaged nearly 5.0 runs per game over the last week and enters this series off a disappointing showing against the red hot Seattle Mariners – There Will Be Blood!!

Seattle Mariners vs. Chicago White Sox
Speaking of those Mariners, we’re on them like white on rice in the second game of this three-game set with the Palehose. We were on the over of Mike Clevinger’s start in Wrigley last week and for the life of me I still can’t comprehend how that game went under. Though he went on to toss seven shutout innings against the North Siders and went over his K prop (7), he wiggled in and out of trouble all night with Chicago leaving 16 on base and four in scoring position before walking it off in the ninth. A total of 30 were left on base in that game and I’m still bitter about it! Regardless, we’ll get some of those units back tonight riding George Kirby whose made it a point to come up big for us whenever we supported him many more times than not this MLB betting season. All of a sudden, the M’s now only find themselves 3-games back in the AL West pennant chase and took over third position in the wild-card standings. Julio Rodriguez is swinging a white hot stick helping lead the team to six straight wins. The good times continue here tonight with Kirby mowing Chicago down and the bats doing to Clevinger what Bellinger and co. could not.
