New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers

The Tigers have played to the under in nine of their last 12 played games with two of those overs coming in games right-hander Reese Olson pitched in. The youngster certainly has the velocity (No. 52) and stuff (9.0 K/9) to dominate opposing offenses at times, but his overall arsenal must be polished in order to avoid the blowups that occurred in a high majority of his starts. Though he only conceded four hits last time out against the Cubs, two left the yard which saw the righty give up 6 ER through 4.2 innings. Save for six shutout innings thrown at the Twins back on August 10, Olson’s served up at least 4 ER and 1 HR in four of his last six starts. Though the Yankees offense has been scuffling in managing a league-low 2.7 runs per game over the last week, I firmly expect Aaron Judge and co. to get theirs. But will it be enough to get out of Motown with the dub? I’m not entirely sure with Luis Severino and his 7.26 ERA and 1.749 WHIP set to toe the bump against a Tigers offense that ranks No. 12 in OPS over the last week. Owner of a near 10.00 ERA at night and on the road, I expect Detroit to hang a crooked number as well.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Chicago Cubs

A huge series kicks off on the corner of Sheffield and Addison with the Brew Crew and Cubbies set to engage in a three-game dustup that could possibly have a new team sitting atop the NL Central standings dependent upon how both teams perform over the weekend. Regardless, Chicago looks to hold the pitching advantage in the opener with Wade Miley set to go mano-a-mano against Jameson Taillon. The former is lucky to clock in with a 6-3 record with his 4.54 FIP nearly 1.5 runs higher than his 3.18 ERA. Averaging just 2.19 strikeouts per walk, the southpaw will have his hands full dealing with a Cubs offense that rakes LHP to the tune of a .745 OPS (No. 16) and averages 5.6 runs per game (No. 5). Current Cubs’ bats are hitting .282 against him lifetime with a .749 OPS. The latter has been a tough nut to crack recently, but his second half resurgence demands attention in this spot mostly due to Chicago winning three of his last four home starts. Milwaukee’s only hitting .263 against him lifetime and the right-hander has conceded two or fewer ER in his last four appearances in front of the Wrigley faithful. Look for a quality showing that puts the home team in a position to take the opener.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

So just how legit a favorite is Zac Gallen to win his first Cy Young Award?
