NFL Week 3 Monday Picks, Predictions, and Odds
September 22, 2023Week 3 NFL Totals Best Bets
September 22, 2023Even when buying points in a teaser bet to move the NFL betting line in your favor, things don’t always work out. For the second time to start the season I hit on two of my three teaser picks only to be left thinking what could’ve been. After all every bet on a single ticket needs to win in order to payout. I thought the Jets would rally around their fallen QB Aaron Rodgers, after all they managed to beat Buffalo in Week 1 with AR going down after four snaps. And although the Cowboys looked great in their opening night trouncing of the Giants I wasn’t totally convinced. Turns out backing the J-E-T-S on the teased line of +15 wasn’t the best move.
There are times when you don’t even have to tease the NFL football lines, which was the case in my two other picks from Week 2. I backed the Baltimore Ravens with a teased line of +9 and they beat the Bengals outright 27-24. I also backed the OVER on a teased total of 34.5 in the Green Bay/Atlanta contest. The teams easily exceeded that while going over the original total of 40.5 in the Falcons 25-24 victory. I’m going with another three-team teaser in Week 3 and you can play your NFL teaser and make football bets online at BetRivers sportsbook.
NFL Week 3 Teaser Best Bets
Los Angeles Chargers at Minnesota Vikings
Opening Line: Chargers +1
Teaser Line: Chargers +7
This game has the chance to be a shootout, which I guess is why the total is the highest on the Week 3 NFL betting board. The Vikings allow nearly 6.0 yards per play and the Chargers can’t buy a stop. What makes this interesting is that both clubs are in desperate need of a victory after opening with a pair of losses. This isn’t a good matchup for the Chargers going against a group of Minnesota receivers led by Justin Jefferson. The Bolts have the worst pass defense in the NFL allowing 333 yards per game.
Opening NFL betting lines had the game as a pick ‘em before Minnesota was wagered to a 1-point favorite with oddsmakers expecting a close encounter. I also anticipate a close game since both teams have played a pair of one-score contests. LA’s losses were by a combined five points. With Justin Herbert slinging it the Bolts will score and I think they collect enough points to stay within the teased line of +7.
Denver Broncos at Miami Dolphins
Opening Line: Dolphins -6.5
Teaser Line: Dolphins -0.5
Sean Payton has shown throughout his coaching career that he can run an offense. Unfortunately he hasn’t had as much success on the other side of the football. The defensive collapse against Washington last week kept the Denver Broncos winless and they’ll have a tough time containing Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins in Week 3. After winning twice on the road to open the campaign, the Fins hit the board as a 6.5-point home favorite on the NFL football line.
Miami boasts the NFL’s top offense averaging 462.5 yards while scoring 30 points per game. Tyreek Hill was held in check last week but the Dolphins still managed nearly 400 yards with Raheem Mostert rushing for 121 yards and two scores in a win over New England. The Broncos allowed Sam Howell to throw for 299 yards and two TDs last week blowing a 21-3 first half lead. With the spread teased to a pick ‘em, Miami is my NFL best bet.
Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars
Opening Line: Jaguars -8.5
Teaser Line: Jaguars -2.5
The line for this game checks several boxes in the teaser playbook. With the Jacksonville Jaguars an 8.5-point favorite on the opening NFL betting line, teasing the number six points crosses key numbers of 7 and 3. And with the Texans in full rebuild mode that makes the Jags a strong NFL betting pick. C.J. Stroud showed promise last week throwing for 384 yards and two scores making the Texans just scary enough to avoid at +8.5.
The Jags need to get their stagnant offense working after blowing a number of chances in last week’s loss to Kansas City. This could be the game for them to get going. Houston will likely be without Derek Stingley and several other defensive starters were limited in practice this week. Trevor Lawrence was just 22 of 41 for 216 yards against KC and the Jags were 3 of 13 on third downs and 0 of 3 inside the red zone. Better execution makes the Jags a NFL favorite this week.
