Favorite
Scottie Scheffler +550
I have high regard for Scheffler, but if you read my weekly golf picks then you should know that golf betting favorites are a losing proposition. The favorites simply don’t win enough to be profitable and it will be extremely rare for me to take one. I like Scheffler, but I am not taking him as the betting favorite.
Value Picks
Collin Morikawa +1000
You can’t deny the success that Morikawa has had at Kapalua. He has finished 2nd, 5th, 7th and 7th in his last four trips to Maui. He has had plenty of chances to win the Sentry including last year when he led by six shots. He should be highly motivated to close the deal this time around.
Max Homa +1200
Homa has played well early in the season in the past with four of his six wins coming in California. He is a player who oftentimes gets overlooked as one of the top players in the world, but his numbers are right there with Scheffler and Rahm. He played well in November, winning the DP World Tour’s Nedbank Challenge and I expect him to contend this week.
Jordan Spieth +2500
I said late last season that it was finally time for me to get back to taking Jordan Spieth. I think Spieth has finally put some of his putting demons to rest and there is no denying he has a great short game. Did you know that since 2008 the two players who have the most wins on Bermudagrass on the PGA Tour are Scheffler and Spieth? I’ll take Spieth at a nice number this week.
Tom Kim +2500
I think we could see some wins for Kim this season. He has played well on seaside courses in the past and he looked very comfortable in this event a year ago when he was in contention. I’ll take a flyer on him at this number.
Erik van Rooyen +10000
It is not out of the question that we see a longshot winner this week. He has been playing really well of late and he has plenty of experience on this course. Van Rooyen has good approach stats and this week’s winner will rank highly in approach and putting. I’ll take a longshot and go with van Rooyen.
