More North Carolina Sports Betting Partnerships Announced

A formal designation agreement between DraftKings and NASCAR will allow the sportsbook to provide mobile sports betting in North Carolina and BetMGM has announced a partnership and Charlotte Motor Speedway. The sports betting industry in North Carolina is anticipated to launch in the first half of 2024 and in order to obtain mobile access, operators must collaborate with professional sports leagues, teams, or venues. A number of other operators have declared alliances that will enable them to run their betting apps in North Carolina. The NBA’s Charlotte Hornets and NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes have reached agreement with Fanatics Sportsbook and bet365, respectively. FanDuel has access to the PGA market with to its partnership with the PGA, while ESPN BET has partnered with Quail Hollow Club, a PGA Tour venue. BetMGM declared that it will collaborate with Charlotte Motor Speedway to provide mobile access in North Carolina. Caesars Sportsbook is anticipated to obtain access via an established affiliation with the state’s tribal casinos, while Underdog has not formally disclosed any collaborations for mobile betting accessibility.

Although a formal launch date for the North Carolina mobile lottery has not yet been announced, Governor Roy Cooper recently said that the state lottery intends to enter the market by the middle of March. Sportsbooks needed to get their agreements in place before that time to be ready to open. In the next months, eight sportsbooks in North Carolina are expected to open for business, based on licensing applications that have been received.
