February 28, 2024We just missed hitting a huge payout last week but Sami Valimaki faltered over the last few holes and lost to Jake Knapp. The PGA Tour heads to Florida this week for the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches with Rory McIlroy listed as the favorite. McIlroy is the clear choice this week, as he is listed with odds of +750 at Caesars. It is a pretty big jump to the next player on the golf betting odds board, as Cameron Young is listed at +2000 and Russell Henley is +2200. The only other player other than McIlroy ranked in the Top 10 in the latest World Golf Rankings in the field is Matt Fitzpatrick at No. 9 and he is the third choice in golf betting odds at +2500. Let’s look at Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches odds and picks.

Favorite
Rory McIlroy +750
It was yet another golf betting favorite that lost last week, as Tony Finau was never in contention in Mexico. I said last week that even with a weak field, I wasn’t taking the favorite. This week I at least have to think about taking McIlroy, as the field in Florida is not that strong and McIlroy is a clear standout. That being said, I simply am not taking golf betting favorites unless they look to be a sure thing.
Golf Picks
Cameron Young +2000
Young is listed at odds of 20-1 and I think that makes him worth a look in this field. He has shown he can play well on tough courses in the past, as he was second at the PGA and second at the Open. He played well in 2022 on this course when he finished 16th. I think he will be in contention this week.
Eric Cole +2500
There is no question that Cole has the talent to win on the PGA Tour and it should just be a matter of time. He has played a lot in Florida in the past on mini-tours and he should feel right at home. I think there is a little value in taking him this week.
J.T. Poston +2800
Poston has won twice on the PGA Tour and the courses he won on were shorter tracks like this one. Poston is playing well this year with solid finishes at The Sentry, Sony and Genesis. He was in the mix to win this event in 2020. He definitely has the type of game to win on a course like this one.
Luke List +5000
List continues to play well, as he finished second at the Genesis. He is back in the Top 50 in the latest World Golf Rankings and he has played well in Florida in the past. He was 2nd in 2018 in this event.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout +5000
Why not a nice longshot to win again on the PGA Tour? It has been a season full of big prices and Bezuidenhout could be the next one. He is getting closer to his first PGA Tour win, as he was 2nd at The American Express. He has played well in Florida in the past and in this field he can contend.
Ben Griffin +8500
Another longshot for me this week is Griffin who should play better now that the action is in Florida. He has played well in the past on Bermudagrass golf courses. He has definitely played well in Florida in the past as last year he has a pair of top 25 finishes.
