Favorite
Scottie Scheffler +600
I sound like a broken record, but yet another golf betting favorite failed to win last week. McIlroy finally showed up with a good round on Sunday but it was too late. Scheffler is definitely capable of winning any time he plays and I am a big fan of his, but I am simply not taking favorites in golf betting right now. And that even applies to Scheffler who is a previous winner in this event and the best golfer in the world.
Golf Picks
Rory McIlroy +900
I didn’t go with McIlroy last week because he was the favorite, but this week he is not. Rory ranks first on the PGA Tour in total driving and winners at Bay Hill have to drive the ball well. Rory is 6th on the PGA Tour in distance and he is 35th in accuracy. Rory has been excellent in this event, never finishing worse than a tie for 27th in nine career starts. He has five top 10 finishes including a win in 2018. I think he will have a chance to win this week and we get 9-1.
Ludvig Aberg +2000
Aberg is getting a lot of respect from the oddsmakers and when you look at the skills of Aberg it makes some sense. He is very strong in total driving and he is good in strokes gained: tee-to-green. Aberg also does well in proximity from 200 yards plus and that is a key stat this week. I think he will be in the mix this week and get 20-1.
Sam Burns +2200
Burns is another player who ranks really well in terms of driving. He is 12th on the PGA Tour in total driving. We know that Burns can compete and beat the best players in the world and I expect him to contend this week.
Jordan Spieth +2200
Spieth has not always played in this event but in 2021 he tied for 4th in his first try and he tied for 4th last year. He has been a bit up and down so far this season, but he has looked better putting the ball this year. He also has been really good in GIR, ranking second on the PGA Tour. I think he will be in contention this week.
Keegan Bradley +4500
I’ll throw a longshot in here and take Bradley. He has two wins since 2022 and he finished 2nd at the Sony Open earlier this year. He can be inconsistent, but he has played well in this event with four top 10 finishes. He ranks 11th on the PGA Tour in proximity from 200+ yards and we know that stat is key this week. I’ll take Bradley at big odds.
