March 5, 2024Arnold Palmer Invitational Matchup Picks
March 6, 2024We are off to an excellent start with LIV Golf picks this season, as we have picked the winner in two of the three LIV Golf events. It just so happens that in both cases we had Joaquin Niemann winning. We had him at 11-1 in last week’s event in Saudi Arabia. LIV Golf is playing in back-to-back weeks and this time around they head to Hong Kong for the LIV Golf Hong Kong tournament. Jon Rahm is once again listed as the betting favorite to win in LIV Golf, as his odds are +500 at Caesars. Rahm has been the betting favorite in each of the first three LIV events of the season and he didn’t win any of them. This will be the fourth straight LIV event where he is overvalued in LIV Golf odds. Joaquin Niemann, who has won two of the first three LIV events this season, is second in the golf betting odds at +700. Let’s look at LIV Golf Hong Kong odds and picks.

Favorite
Jon Rahm +500
I say every week that favorites on the LIV Golf Tour and the PGA Tour are losing propositions. This season it has been Rahm who has been favored in every LIV event and he has yet to win. There is no question that Rahm is capable of winning any time he tees it up, but at these odds, and on a course that is relatively short, I can’t back him.
Golf Picks
Tyrrell Hatton +1200
Hatton continues to play well in LIV with top 15 finishes in seven of his last eight events. He is accurate off the tee and he is very good with his irons. If he putts well this week he should be in the mix.
Talor Gooch +1400
Gooch continues to play well on the LIV Golf Tour, as he has finished tied for 2nd and tied for 6th in two of the first three events. He is player who is straight off the tee and he hits a lot of greens. He also leads the LIV Golf Tour in scrambling. I expect him to contend this week.
Cameron Smith +1800
I am not sure why Smith has started slowly this season but Hong Kong is a great place for him to turn the corner. He should do better on a shorter course where his driver doesn’t get him into trouble. He ranks first on the LIV Tour in putting and he is a great scrambler. I expect him to be in the mix this week.
Louis Oosthuizen +1800
There are definitely courses where Oosthuizen can compete and this is one of them. He hits the ball straight and he doesn’t make many mistakes. He is also playing well, he has finished T8 at LIV Mayakoba and T2 at LIV Jeddah. Oosthuizen is a good scrambler and putts well and that should put him in the mix this week.
Paul Casey +4000
We know that Casey can hit a lot of fairways and greens as he is fourth in driving accuracy on the LIV Golf Tour and he leads in GIR percentage. He is also good in scrambling, as he ranks 10th. If Casey is going to win on LIV it should be on a course like this one.
Patrick Reed +5000
I have to admit that I am surprised Reed hasn’t won an LIV Golf event. He should do well in Hong Kong where accuracy and putting are of utmost importance. He has played well in Asia in the past and his short game is definitely among the best in this field.
Graeme McDowell +12500
I will throw in one bomb and take McDowell. He finished in the top five in Las Vegas and he has played well in Hong Kong in the past. He is accurate off the tee and he ranks highly in GIR. Maybe he can turn back the clock and contend this week.
