March 13, 2024Can anything slow down Scottie Scheffler at THE PLAYERS Championship this week? Scheffler dominated the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week, winning by five shots and he won last year’s PLAYERS by five shots. Scheffler is the clear favorite this week in golf betting odds at Caesars. All of the world’s best players except those in LIV are in the field for this week’s tournament. I am coming off a 4-1 week with the matchups at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. That brings the record to 14-7 with the matchups in the last four weeks. Let’s look at THE PLAYERS Championship matchup picks.

Defending Champion: Scottie Scheffler
Tournament Notes: Can Scheffler make history this week? No player has ever successfully defended his PLAYERS title. Only five players have won the tournament more than once. Despite the fact that very few players have won the event more than once, experience does matter, as only two players in history have won on their first try, Hal Sutton in 1983 and Craig Perks in 2002. TPC Sawgrass is a par 72 that measures 7,275 yards.

Golf Matchup Picks
Max Homa +100 vs. Collin Morikawa
Homa is coming off a tie for 8th last week and he has four top 20’s this season. He has finished in a tie for 13th and a tie for 6th in the last two PLAYERS. I have started to go against Morikawa of late with success and I see no reason to change that strategy this week, especially when we get to take Homa at even money.
Will Zalatoris -105 vs. Viktor Hovland
I have really been impressed with Zalatoris of late. He had a slow start to his comeback but he is rolling with a tie for 13th, a tie for 2nd and a tie for 4th. His game translates well to TPC Sawgrass and I expect him to have a good week. Hovland has played better at TPC Sawgrass of late, but I still don’t know that this course suits his strengths. I’ll take Zalatoris in this matchup.
Russell Henley -140 vs. Min Woo Lee
Henley looked good last week with a tie for 4th at Bay Hill. He has heated up with his putter of late and if his putter stays hot. he can contend this week. I think it is time to cool the hype on Min Woo Lee, as he doesn’t look ready yet to be considered among the world’s best players. I’ll take Henley in this matchup.
Wyndham Clark +100 vs. Shane Lowry
I know that Lowy has played better lately, but Clark is also playing well and I don’t think there is any doubt that Clark is the better player. If I can get a better player at even money, I have to take a serious look. I’ll take Clark in this matchup against Lowry.
Tom Hoge -135 vs. Nick Taylor
One of the players I liked in the odds preview was Hoge, as I think he is definitely undervalued. Hoge is capable of contending this week and I don’t think we can say the same thing about Taylor. I will take Hoge in this matchup.
