April 9, 2024Gambler’s Fallacy Thinking
April 10, 2024The penultimate day of regular season NBA action commences on Friday, April 12 with every team on the schedule giving bettors plenty of chances to hit a winning NBA parlay at Caesars. Playoff seedings are still up for grabs in both conferences, but the Boston Celtics have secured the league’s best overall record entering the final week of play with a 15-game bulge over Milwaukee. The Bucks will try to hold on to the second seed and work out some kinks in the process with a matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first of two games on NBA TV. The Bucks closed last week with four straight losses and failed to cover the NBA point spread in every game.
The Orlando Magic are the best NBA pick against the spread with payouts in over 64 percent of their games and enter the week holding a top six seed in the Eastern Conference. However, with the congested standings a few setbacks could drop them to a play-in spot. It’s a bad time for Orlando to play Philadelphia with the return of Joel Embiid sparking a revival in the Sixers. Philly entered the week on a five-game winning streak inching closer to a top six seed. And their NBA futures odds also got a boost with the MVP returning. The NBA betting day concludes with a pair of Western Conference matchups. The Clippers host Utah a week after administering a 29-point drubbing and Phoenix visits Sacramento in the second NBA TV contest.

Last week’s NBA parlay didn’t go so well with two of my three picks ending up losers. There’s still time left in the regular season to make up for all the setbacks over the course of the season, though a few winning tickets along the way helped out. One team that teams are afraid of playing in the postseason is Miami, who reached the NBA Finals last season after emerging from the play-in tournament.
The Heat knocked off Milwaukee and Boston along the way and a few injured players are set to return. Miami can get some momentum with a win over Toronto, something a lot of teams did recently. The Raptors ended a 15-game losing streak that saw them go 3-12 as a NBA odds pick, and I’m not convinced the Raptors are out the woods. Besides, the Heat need wins and I’ll back them at home against the NBA betting line.
The Minnesota Timberwolves stayed in contention following the loss of Karl-Anthony Towns and can secure the No. 1 seed in the West. The Wolves boast the NBA’s top defense holding opponents to 106 points and 44.6 percent shooting. Anthony Edwards has emerged as a star and Naz Reid picked up the slack in KAT’s absence. The Atlanta Hawks have struggled on the road with the worst away record of among the top 10 in the East and their woes will continue with a NBA point spread loss.
After what happened last Friday I have to back the Clippers in their tilt with the Utah Jazz. LA put a 131-102 hurt on the Jazz easily covering the 12.5-point NBA line. And they did it without Kawhi Leonard, who’s nursing a sore knee. Not scoring while giving up a bunch of points is a recipe for failure leading to 12 straight Utah defeats. They haven’t been good as a NBA pick against the spread in that span with just three cover wins. I can’t see how this game will be different than what we saw last week which is why I’m backing the Clippers as my NBA odds pick.
