Gambler’s Fallacy Thinking
April 10, 2024Masters Props
April 10, 2024The Masters, golf’s first major of the season, takes place this week and it is Scottie Scheffler favored to win. He is listed as the solid betting favorite at Caesars. It is quite a distance between Scheffler and the second choice in the betting, Rory McIlroy. Favorites in golf betting, other than Scheffler, have been losing on a regular basis. I had been rolling along pretty good with the golf matchups until last week. Let’s look for a big bounce back at the Masters. Let’s look at Masters matchup picks.

Defending Champion: Jon Rahm
Tournament Notes: This event is all about experience, as no first timer has won since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979. Augusta National is the longest it has ever been at 7,555 yards, as the par 5 second hole was increased by 10 yards. Distance off the tee is important at the Masters, but second shots are critical, as Augusta is known as a course that demands playing the angles correctly.

Golf Matchup Picks
Brooks Koepka +135 vs. Rory McIlroy
This is a ridiculous price on McIlroy. I like Rory’s game but Koepka has become a player you can trust in majors. The reality is that right now I don’t know if you can trust Rory in big events. Koepka raises his game in big moments and I think he is worth a play at this plus price against McIlroy.
Jason Day -135 vs. Min Woo Lee
Day has been in contention to win the Masters in the past and he comes in playing pretty well this season. I know that Lee is thought of as a future star but I have yet to see him prove he can play with the world’s best. I’ll take Day in this matchup.
Justin Rose -125 vs. Rickie Fowler
I know that Fowler has played pretty well in the past at Augusta but I think he is a go-against player right now. He just looks completely lost with his game. Rose is a player who always seems to hang around and I think just making the cut will be enough for Rose to beat Fowler in this matchup.
Shane Lowry -110 vs. Tommy Fleetwood
Lowry is a major winner, as he won the 2019 Open and he has played well in the past in the Masters. He is also a player who knows how to play well in the wind. I’ll take him at the short price in this matchup against Fleetwood.
Nick Dunlap -105 vs. Ryo Hisatsune
Dunlap is no longer an amateur and he is a player to watch going forward. He is going to be a future star and it would not surprise me at all to see him contend this week. I’ll take him in this matchup.
