April 23, 2024When it comes to prop bets in craps, the first thing you need to know is that they are all bad bets. The dealers like to promote these bets, probably at the direction of higher management who know that is where the largest margins are. Think of a prop bet like a side wager. Think Super Bowl and you’ll get the idea. The main odds have the pointspread and total but you also have side or prop bets on who will score first, most field goals, etc. The main money bets in craps are the Pass-line, and Don’t Pass line bets, Place and Don’t Place bets and the Field bet. Hard Way bets are also a prop bet but they are not “one roll only” bets. Hop Bets are those that apply to the next roll. There are two types of Hop bets — Easy and Hard. Most players don’t even consider Hop bets because they are bad bets, as you are betting on a specific outcome of the dice on the next roll.

Any Seven
A really bad bet in craps is the “any seven.” It wins if the next roll is a total of seven. If not, the bet loses. There are six ways to roll a seven (1-6, 2-5, 3-4, 4-3, 5-2, and 6-1) out of the 36 possible results. The probability of winning is 6/36 or 1/6. Oftentimes the payout you see is 4 to 1, or 5 for 1 and that means a house edge of 16.67% or 8.33%
Any Craps
The “craps” numbers are the 2, 3, or 12. The Any Craps bets wins if one of those three numbers are rolled on the next roll. There are four ways to win (1-1, 1-2, 2-1, and 6-6). That means you have 4/36. Winning this bet pay 7 to 1, or 8 for 1 and that means a house edge of over 11%.
Hard Way Bets
These are popular pro bets. They are not contingent on the next roll of the dice. They are like Place Bets. You are wagering that a particular number is rolled the hard way before the easy way. It means that the “Hard Way” is both dice rolling the same number. For example, a 4-4 is known as a Hard Eight. The Easy Eight would be a 6-2 or a 5-3. You can make four Hard Way bets, Hard 4, Hard 6, Hard 8, and Hard 10. Each bet wins if the Hard Way is rolled before the Easy Way or a 7 is rolled. The bet continues until one of those two things occurs. The house edge for the Hard 4 and Hard 10 is just over 11%, while the house edge on the Hard 6 and Hard 8 is just over 9%.
Horn Bet
The Horn bet is in reality four bets, as you are wagering on the 2, 3, 11, and 12. The total bet will be divided four ways among those bets. The overall house edge is 12.5% which makes it another terrible bet for the player.
World Bet
This wager is also known as the Whirl bet which means you are betting on the 2, 3, 7, 11, and 12. The house edge on this one is 13.33%.
In craps, all you really need to know about proposition bets is not to make any. Betting on these foolish wagers is frequently justified by hedging a bigger wager somewhere else. It’s not a very good reason. In a casino, hedging is nearly always a terrible idea because the house edge on hedge bets is typically very substantial. Play Craps Right Now at Caesars.
