What Are NBA Prop Bets?

January 27, 2022We recently looked at reduced juice and explained just how much of an advantage it is for sports bettors who are looking to save money. This time around we will look at reduced juice vs. bonuses. A question that is oftentimes asked by bettors is whether it is bettor to take the generous sign-up bonus or to take reduced juice. Keep in mind that reduced juice is where you are getting a better price than the standard price of -110. Whether that price is -105 or even -109, anything better than -110 is considered reduced juice. For the most part, taking reduced juice vs. bonuses is going to be the better choice, but not always. Let’s look at some of the things you need to consider if you have to make the choice of reduced juice or bonuses.
Choosing Reduced Juice
If you have to make a choice between reduced juice and a bonus you are almost always better off taking the reduced juice. When you take the reduced juice, you will immediately be saving money on every lost wager. Instead of losing $110 on a wager you only lose $105 and that money adds up over time. Let’s say you just make 20 bets at $110 each for a total of $2200. If you win half of those bets then you will win $1,000 while losing $1,100 for a total loss of $100. If you made those same 20 bets at $105 each then you would have lost $1,050 and won $1,000 for a total loss of $50. The more volume you have, the more money you are going to save. And keep in mind that the money you save is immediately put back into your bankroll to be used.
If you are going with the bonus then it may take some time for you to see any of that money. Let’s say you get a sign-up bonus of $1,000 but it has a 10x rollover requirement attached to it. For you to get that $1,000 bonus you will have had to wager $10,000. For most people it is going to take some time to put $10,000 into action. Also keep in mind that getting a $1,000 bonus may mean a rollover requirement of 20x or 25x and then you have to wager $20,000 or $25,000 before you see the bonus money. If you are a player who is looking at the long term, you always want to choose reduced juice over a bonus because eventually you’ll save more money over any potential bonus you may have been given.
Choosing Bonuses
If you are a player who bets a small amount or bets at a small volume then you may want to choose the sign-up bonus over reduced juice. If you don’t wager a lot of money then taking the big bonus money may be a good choice for you. Let’s illustrate. Let’s say you make wagers of $55 to win $50. You make 10 bets of $55 for a total of $550 and let’s say you win 5 bets for a total of $500. You would have lost $50 at -110. If you bet those at -105 then your losses would have been just $25. Even if you made 100 bets for the season you would have saved $250 at the reduced juice. If your bonus was something like $500 or $1000 then you may be better off taking the big bonus, but only if you didn’t anticipate wagering a lot more money in the future.
Reduce Juice and Bonuses
Did you know that you don’t have to choose between reduced juice and bonuses? Why not get both? You don’t have to play at just one sportsbook, as you can play at multiple sportsbooks. If you find an online sportsbook that you like that has reduced juice but no big bonuses; pick that sportsbook for the bulk of your wagers. At the same time, you can also choose to play at a sportsbook that offers you a great sign-up bonus. You don’t have to place all of your wagers at this sportsbook, but you can place enough wagers at the book to get your bonus. The bottom line is that you don’t need to choose reduced juice betting or bonuses, as you can choose both.
