July 25, 2023After a dozen years of either the Clemson Tigers or the Florida State Seminoles dominating the ACC, the conference changed the format for the ACC Championship Game in the offseason. No longer will the Atlantic Division winner play the Coastal Division winner, but instead the two best teams in the conference will square off in the conference title game. This needed to be done after either Florida State or Clemson won 11 of the last 12 ACC titles while representing the Atlantic Division, and they typically blew out their Coastal Division counterpart in the ACC Championship Game. Thus, it comes as no surprise that the two overwhelming favorites to win the ACC by the CFB futures odds are Clemson and Florida State.

Clemson has been the cream of the crop in the ACC for the last decade. The Tigers struggled on offense for the last two seasons, but they figure to be better in 2023 after Dabo Swinney finally stepped out of his comfort zone in order to hire offensive coordinator Garrett Riley to run that side of the ball. Riley is the younger brother of Lincoln Riley, and he was the offensive coordinator for TCU during their run to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game last weekend.
The combination of Riley and Cade Klubnik should ensure this is a much better offense than we have seen the last few seasons. Klubnik showed a lot of potential as a freshman, and he has a very good running back with him in Will Shipley. The defense is extremely talented, especially along the line up front, and that makes Clemson the best bet to win the ACC.
Florida State is a popular pick to win the conference after finally turning things around last season. The Seminoles have a Heisman Trophy contender in Jordan Travis, and he has some of the lowest odds to win the Heisman Trophy on the board. Travis is a superb dual-threat quarterback that could put up huge numbers as a fifth-year senior, and the offense is chock full of upperclassmen. However, Mike Norvell continues to dip into the transfer portal a little too much, and that will make it a bit difficult to face LSU and Clemson early in the season.
Drake Maye is a potential top-five pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, so North Carolina at least has a chance to win the conference title. The Tar Heels were able to keep Maye on the roster although multiple schools were keen on acquiring him as a transfer, and he is primed to put up some big numbers in an offense with a ton of experience. Four of the five starting offensive linemen have five years of college experience, and the receivers are pretty talented too. The question as always is the defense since this unit ranked 105th in SP+ in 2022.
Louisville is worth a small play to win the ACC. The Cardinals upgraded in a big way this offseason by hiring Jeff Brohm away from Purdue, and they dodge both Florida State and Clemson in conference play. They only play three true road games this season too as both Georgia Tech and Indiana are neutral site games. Transfer Jack Plummer has the potential to thrive in this offense after spending last year at Cal as he spent his first three seasons under Brohm at Purdue, and this team might end up having a top 20 offense in terms of SP+.
The only other team that is worth consideration for the ACC Championship is Miami. The Hurricanes missed a bowl game last season, but Mario Cristobal recruits at a very high level. This is the type of high-risk, high-reward team that is great when it comes to betting on college football futures, you just have to keep in mind that there is a good chance it all blows up too. There is a ton of talent on this team as Miami has the second-highest blue chip ratio in the ACC.
