April 22, 20242024 NFL Draft Betting – AFC North 1st Drafted Positions at Caesars Sportsbook
April 23, 2024The AFC East witnessed an intense battle for the division title last season, culminating in a showdown between the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins in Week 18. Josh Allen led the Bills to a remarkable fourth-quarter comeback, securing the division championship for the fourth consecutive season. However, injuries limited the division race to a two-horse competition between the Bills and the Dolphins, with the Jets and Patriots relegated to the sidelines.
As the 2024-25 NFL betting season approaches, Caesars Sportsbook still has the New England Patriots trailing behind, while the Bills, Dolphins, and Jets are all in contention for the division title. Could the outcome of the 2024 NFL Draft be the ultimate decider? Let’s put the current AFC East draft positions under the microscope and see if we can’t make some coin on each team and explore the potential for roster improvements.
Bet AFC East First Drafted Positions at Caesars Sportsbook
Buffalo Bills First Drafted Position at Caesars Sportsbook:
- Wide Receiver: -280
- Defensive Lineman or EDGE: +450
- Cornerback: +550
- Offensive Linemen: +800
- Safety: +1500
- Linebacker: +4000
Having been disposed of in the Division Round by the eventual Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs in yet another demoralizing playoff defeat for the franchise, the Bills only pick in the first round will occur in the late stages. Slotted to pick 28th overall and not expected to make an effort to move up in the draft, the Bills are likely to shore up a glaring weakness on the offensive side of the ball with both Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis no longer on the roster. While offensive line help is also a need, a run on them is expected before they’re called up to the podium so it only makes sense that GM Brandon Beane elects to infuse some pass catching talent into the huddle. It’s highly possible that both Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell are available then, so it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if either ended up donning the royal blue, white, and red of the Bills come the conclusion of the draft’s first day. Lay the -280 chalk expecting No. 17 to get a new toy.
Miami Dolphins First Drafted Position at Caesars Sportsbook:
- Offensive Lineman: -165
- Defensive Lineman or EDGE: +210
- Cornerback: +550
- Wide Receiver: +850
- Tight End: +3000
- Cornerback: +4000
Also kicked to the curb by the eventual champs, the Dolphins enter 2024 NFL Draft betting owners of the 21st pick. I agree with the betting market’s sentiment setting the tone for this betting option at Caesars with OL and DL or EDGE help sorely needed in South Beach with the defection of Christian Wilkins to Sin City and Tua Tagovailoa still in need of front wall help. If guys like Amarius Mims, Graham Burton, or Jackson Powers-Johnson are still on the board at 21, one of them will be selected. If not, I expect Miami to go the route of drafting a disruptor along the defensive line which will find players like Jared Verse, Darius Robinson, and Chop Robinson in play. I recommend gambling here and going with the +210 ROI instead of laying the chalk.
New York Jets First Drafted Position at Caesars Sportsbook:
- Offensive Lineman: -110
- Tight End: +150
- Wide Receiver: +260
- Defensive Lineman or EDGE: +2500
- Cornerback: +2500
- Quarterback: +10000
The Jets 2023-24 campaign ended four snaps into the regular season after Aaron Rodgers ripped his Achilles. While the quarterback position is something the team will likely address in the draft with Tyrod Taylor an injury waiting to happen and Zach Wilson clearly not ready for the show, the 100-1 payoff on New York selecting a quarterback with the tenth pick in the first round tells us all we need to know about GM Joe Douglas going that route early on. Having already made a splash in free agency along the offensive line by signing Tyron Smith, John Simpson, and Morgan Moses to help improve a front wall that conceded 64 sacks a season ago, I simply can’t see the Jets bypass the opportunity of selecting a special player like Brock Bowers to give the offense an excellent complementary player to lineup alongside Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. With that, I’ll gladly take the plus-money return and hitch my wagon to Bowers at No. 10!
New England Patriots
The Patriots currently don’t have any odds on the board at Caesars for their first drafted position largely due to all the rumors of GM Eliot Wolf trading out of the third pick to bolster his draft stock. Personally, I think that would be foolish if Drake Maye was still on the board. While things didn’t work out with Mac Jones, New England overdrafted him years back and that shouldn’t prevent the new regime in Foxboro from potentially landing the kid that could raise the franchise from the ashes much like Tom Brady did decades ago. He’s currently the -125 favorite to be selected third overall at Caesars. Whether it’s with the Pats or another team remains to be seen, but Jacoby Brissett could prove to be a tremendous mentor for the youngster.
