February 7, 2023Although the 2024 United States Presidential Election is still 21 months away, there is significant buzz regarding who will run for both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. Just as sports have become a 24-7-365 news cycle, there is increasing attention paid to the political cycle and subsequently political betting odds throughout the course of the year. Joe Biden isn’t exactly popular, but he is more popular than former President Donald Trump, and those are two of the three favorites to win per the 2024 US Presidential Election betting odds. The other person with a real shot at the presidency is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who is the new standard bearer of the GOP.

Who Will be the Democratic Party Nominee for the 2024 US Presidential Election?
Incumbent POTUS Joe Biden is the clear favorite to be the Democratic Party nominee next year, but his age and his unpopularity doesn’t make him a lock to run again. Biden is currently 80 years old, and he will be almost 82 on Election Day in 2024. That means he would be 86 years old if he won reelection and served a full eight years, making him the oldest POTUS in history by a mile.
It’s clear that Biden is already slipping with some of his gaffes, so there is a legitimate question regarding how much longer he can go on at this point. The problem for the Democrats is that Biden was able to unite the party in order to beat Donald Trump in a way that anyone else may be unable to replicate.
Kamala Harris is even more unpopular than Biden, and she hasn’t given herself a pivotal program to run on since taking the office of Vice President. The only other Cabinet member that has a shot to become POTUS is Pete Buttigieg, although some will try to talk you into Gavin Newsom or Michelle Obama.
Newsom has almost no chance to win the moderates he needs as the Governor of California, while Obama seems happy to be out of the limelight.
Who Will be the Republican Party Nominee for the 2024 US Presidential Election?
It’s largely seen as a two-horse race in the Republican Party. Trump surprisingly won the 2016 Republican Party nomination even though he was 50-1 to be on the ticket per the political betting odds, and he pulled off a huge upset on Election Night in 2016 too as a 10-1 underdog the day of the election.
Trump did not tone down his antics or his theatrics during his time as POTUS making him the most polarizing president of the last 100 years. His supporters absolutely love him, and he has a cult of personality unlike any other president in modern times. However, he has a slew of critics that absolutely despise him too and promise to do everything to keep him from becoming POTUS.
Meanwhile, DeSantis is still a relatively fresh face in American politics. He didn’t hold elected office at the national level until 2013, and he only became the Governor of Florida in 2019. DeSantis stood tall in the face of the COVID lockdown, and he was the most adamant voice in protest of the measures taken by the federal government in this regard.
He has endeared himself to Republicans with some of his “social war” antics, while he is palatable enough for moderates to vote for him ahead of Trump. That gives DeSantis an edge over Trump next year.
The only other Republican that has a chance of winning the nomination is Nikki Haley. She was the first female Governor of South Carolina, and she also served as US Ambassador to the United Nations. Haley is an old school moderate Republican, and there is a growing number of people that miss some of their old heroes like John McCain.
Haley has something else going for her in that she’s a conventionally attractive woman. That has helped Tulsi Gabbard bolster her political appeal significantly over the last four years, and Haley could ride a similar wave. Unlike Gabbard though, Haley is very competent and a politician you can back.
