December 27, 2024The Week 17 installment of Sunday Night Football takes NFL bettors to Landover where the Washington Commanders will attempt to lock down their first playoff appearance since 2020 against an Atlanta Falcons squad fighting for its playoff lives that just saw its postseason hopes get taken off life support under these exact same prime time lights. With the Bucs choking in Big D, the Falcons 34-7 handling of the New York Giants allowed for Raheem Morris’ troops to reclaim their positioning atop the AFC South standings. As for the Commies, they took a step closer towards punching a playoff bid last week by coming back to upend the Philadelphia Eagles 36-33 in the game’s closing moments earning the franchise a double-digit winning campaign for the first time since 2012.
PROLINE+ opened the NFL odds for this week’s SNF matchup with the Commanders laying 3.5-points and the total lined 46. The number to beat has since jumped a half-point to -4 with Washington being supported by 70+ percent of the bets and 80+ percent of the money. The total market has undergone a correction as well with it up to 47.5 due to 70+ percent of the written tickets and 65+ percent of the booked handle expecting points to hit the board in bunches.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Washington Commanders NFL Same Game Parlay:
The Atlanta Falcons 2024-25 campaign breathes new life after securing the home win and cover against the New York Giants last week. The victory allowed for Bijan Robinson and Co. to tie the Tampa Bay Buccaneers atop the NFC South standings, thanks to Baker Mayfield and the Bucs stumbling in Arlington and shockingly losing outright to the Dallas Cowboys under the Sunday night lights. Having swept the season series against Tampa Bay, Atlanta owns the tiebreaker, giving them the division’s lone playoff berth if the season were to end today. The Falcons would enter the postseason as the No. 4 seed, but the path ahead is anything but easy. Week 17 presents a tough challenge as Michael Penix prepares for his first road start in Landover against a Washington Commanders team riding high after a dramatic comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles—arguably the biggest win of the Jayden Daniels era. Early action reports from online sportsbooks suggested little confidence in Atlanta’s chances to cover the spread, let alone secure an outright victory. However, the scales have started to tip back in the Dirty Bird’s direction with the team desperately looking to improve upon its 4-3 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) records away from Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Washington Commanders delivered a statement win in Week 16, overcoming a 14-0 first-quarter deficit to secure a dramatic 36-33 victory and cover the spread at the final whistle. While Jalen Hurts’ early exit significantly influenced the game’s dynamics, Washington seized the moment and made it count. Jayden Daniels was the star of the show, recording a 99.2 QB rating with 258 passing yards, five touchdowns, and 81 rushing yards. Despite five turnovers, including two in the red zone, the Commanders managed 368 total yards and averaged 5.8 yards per play against one of the NFL’s top defenses. Daniels’ clutch performance proved pivotal in orchestrating the comeback. The Eagles’ collapse was exacerbated by a costly dropped pass from DeVonta Smith, which could have allowed Philadelphia to either run out the clock or extend their lead to double digits late in the game. Instead, the Commanders took advantage of the miscue, marching downfield for the game-winning touchdown. Now riding a wave of momentum, Washington must guard against a potential letdown as they gear up for a primetime showdown against Atlanta with their playoff bid there for the taking.
The Commies were a big bet for me last week at home against the Eagles, and boy do I feel fortunate to have been able to get PROLINE+ for a nice score. Had Smith caught that pass, I’d likely still be crying in my beer. But he didn’t and my man JD took care of me and my family for the holiday season. That being said, I’m extremely curious as to how the team reacts in this extreme letdown spot against a Falcons outfit now fighting for its playoff lives after being handed a golden ticket by the Bucs last week. Wouldn’t it just be so predictable for Washington to lay an egg and saw its offense regress after scoring a huge tally against one of the best defenses in the league? I can’t believe I’m doing this as nice Washington has been to my bottom line all season, but I’ll be fading them in this spot and pairing that position with the under knowing full well Atlanta wants nothing to do with having their rookie partake in a shootout in his first NFL road start.
