June 7, 2022Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Rangers Game 5 Playoff Preview
June 8, 2022This Saturday, we’ll see the 154th running of the Belmont Stakes in New York. While viewers won’t be presented with an opportunity to see a Triple Crown winner, the field should give us an entertaining race between what looks to be eight contenders.
The Kentucky Derby presented fans with a massive upset with longshot Rich Strike taking home the victory despite entering with 80-1 odds. Unfortunately, the horse sat out of the Preakness, meaning we’ll have no Triple Crown winner in 2022.
In Rich Strike’s absence, top contender Early Voting left with a win after entering with 7-2 odds. Those were the second best in the field as the horse edged favorite Epicenter to take home the first-place prize.
Now, we gear up for the final leg of the Triple Crown circuit. Rich Strike will return, presumably entering as one of the favorites. Early Voting, however, won’t be in attendance. The eight-horse field should boast a few heavy hitters while also seeing a few notable longshots.
Three of the top six finishers in the Kentucky Derby are in action, while the third-place finisher in the Preakness, Creative Minister, will also run. Let’s take a look at the field as BetMaker gives a preview, top contenders, and a prediction for the upcoming Belmont Stakes.

Belmont Stakes Odds
Below are the odds for each horse in the field (listed in alphabetical order).
Barber Road: 12/1
Barber Road finished sixth in the Kentucky Derby, exceeding his expectations for the race. In nine career events, the horse has landed a pair of wins and seven top 3 finishes. Barber Road is a closer that will look to hang around before taking advantage of tired foes late in the race. While he may be a longshot to win, Barber Road could find himself in the top 3 with another solid run.
Creative Minister: 13/2
Creative Minister finished third in the Preakness and has never run outside of the money. In four career races, the horse has landed a pair of wins, one second, and one third place finish. He also won an allowance race on the Kentucky Derby undercard. Creative Minister could be a darkhorse to land a Belmont win.
Golden Glider: 33/1
Golden Glider is another long shot with a chance to surprise. While he did not participate in the two previous Triple Crown events, he did finish second in the Peter Pan Stakes his last time on this track. Golden Glider has two wins and one second place result in six career races.
Mo Donegal: 5/2
Mo Donegal enters as one of the heavy hitters. He boasts three wins and a pair of third place finishes over six career races. The closer most recently ran fifth in the Kentucky Derby, which is the first time the horse has finished out of the money. You can bet he’ll be eager to get back to the leaderboard with jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.
Nest: 8/1
Another proven horse, Nest has already landed four wins in her first six starts. The other two events ended in a second and third place position. The long length of the track could benefit Nest, who’s viewed as being a bit slower than her competition out of the gates. She’s never finished outside the top 3 and could be a contender to make a late run.
Rich Strike: 4/1
After barely sneaking into the Kentucky Derby field, Rich Strike took full advantage by landing a longshot win. After entering with 80-1 odds, the horse was able to make a late push to pull off the surprising upset. Now, though, Rich Strike is no longer a secret. With a target on his back, he’ll try to prove that the Kentucky Derby win wasn’t a fluke.
Skippylongstocking: 25/1
Skippylongstocking is fresh off a fifth-place finish at the Preakness. In 10 career races, the horse has notched two wins, a second, and a third-place mark. He’ll be considered a longshot with an outside chance of finishing near the top of the leaderboard.
We The People: 5/2
We The People just won the Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont in May, giving him a third win in four career starts. He’ll be considered a favorite due to that past success at this venue, and could be in line for another trip to the winner’s circle.
Belmont Stakes Prediction
We’re rolling with Mo Donegal (5/2) to rebound from a disappointing Kentucky Derby finish and leave with a win in the final leg of the Triple Crown circuit.
